The members heard about the ingredients and uses of the products including Oatmeal/Honey soap, Tea Tree soap and dog shampoo. A demonstration of reflexogology on the foot was also given. During the business meeting it was decided to take part in the Farmer's Market on Thanksgiving Saturday, Oct. l2. Pies, cookies, preserves and crafts will be offered for sale. Members heard reports from the District Annual picnic, Flower Pounding course and the birthday party at Zurich Blue Water Nursing Home in August. Flower pounded arti- cles are on display in the Grand Bend Library. Pastor Elly Van Bergen announced that the Varna anniversary service would be held Sept. 29 in Varna with guest minister Rev. Ted Nelson. Sharon and Laura Johnston will play the harp and flute. Everyone is welcome. Also on Sept. 29 there will be an Evening Musical Experience featur- ing the Bayfield Winds Concert Band at 7 p.m. in Holmesville United Church to celebrate their 123rd anniversary. On Oct. 3, Varna and Goshen U.C.W. will meet at Varna at 8 p.m. Guest speaker will be Dianne Waun talking about the “Children of Chernobyl”. The Sunday School members were absent from church as they took a hike through Bannockburn. Three of the university and college students, Dan, Graham and Gerhardus were home for the week- end and joined everyone at church. Congratulations to Leslie Linfield, daughter of Bill and Linda, and Robinson Green. They were married Sept. 21 in Goshen Church. Some decorations were left for the Sunday church services. During Thanksgiving and the Christmas giving seasons, there will be a basket at the back of both sanc- tuaries for donations for local food banks. You may drop your donations in on Sundays. On Oct. 6 the Stephensons will be doing the ‘Stephenson Steps for Breast Cancer Research’ and pledges are welcome. Oct. 20 is Camp Menesetung Volunteer Appreciation Day. The pro- gram will begin at 4:30 p.m. with dinner to follow. This will be held at Northside United Church in Goderich. Happy birthday wishes go to Wilfred Chuter who was 96 on Sept. 21. Tracy Crick, former minister in Varna-Goshen, will marry Kevin Butler on Sept. 28 at 3 p.m. at Robinson United Church on Richmond St., Highway 4. Snack food will be served after the wedding and everyone is welcome! Scavenger hunt organized for youth groups By Rhoda Rohde THAMES ROAD CORRESPONDENT THAMES ROAD - Rev. Marilyn Carter was in charge of the church ser- vice on Sunday morning. Richard Johns lit the Christ Candle. Rev. Carter told the children a story about “A Spelling Bee” and “Do Your Best”. The choir sang “For He Is So Precious To Me” accompanied by organist Jean Hodgert. Bruce Delbridge read the scriptures. John and Marilyn Pym received the offering and were the greeters. Neil Lakey, Huron-Perth Presbytery Pastoral Minister, will be the guest speaker at the church service on Sept. 29. World Wide Communion will be celebrated Oct. 6. A Concert of Praise will be held Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church (Exmouth at Murphy), Sarnia. The choirs, brass and Kooij Sisters Trio of the Ontario Christian Music Assembly will be hosting this concert. Cost is: adults $10, students $6 and a family rate is avail- able. A scavenger hunt on Oct. 14 will kick off the season for the Messengers (grades SK to three) and the Youth Group (grade four and up) and their families. They will meet at the church at 3 p.m., hike to Miller’s bush, and then return to the church for fun activities and supper. In case of wet weather please meet at the church at 4 p.m. A clown ministry work- shop ‘Fools for Christ’ will be held Oct. 19 with Sarah Fanning and Colleen Cavanaugh at Thamesford U.C. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration is $12 which includes lunch and clown- ing supplies. For registra- tion forms see the back bulletin board. Registration information is also on the bulletin board for a session at Five Oaks Christian Centre ‘Representing Fullness of Life’ on Oct. 21 to 23. On Oct. 27 Exeter U.C. presents Rev. Mark Curtis, Canada’s Singing Priest, at Exeter United Church at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost: advance $10, at the door $12, teens $5 and are available at Exeter U.C., Country Flowers, Country Trenditions, MacLean’s Home Hardware and Hensall U.C. The next meeting of the Sunbeams will be held Oct. 3 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the church base- ment. Personals Sincere sympathy is extended to Bob Jeffery, Doug and Barb Jeffery and their sons Scott and Lori and Rob and Heather in the sudden passing of Bob’s wife Bernice.
