BRIEFS --Mr Ralph Elliott leas returned
from Manitoba where he had been for the
past two or three years. -Mrs Fergie of
Wingham is yisiting friends in this neieh-
borhood.--T yo sisters of Mr Robt Pollick
who have been living in -the Northwest for
some years,are visiting their friends in this
vicinity. They aro looking hale and hand-
soine. the weather seems to have agreed
{with them exceedingly well. -Intelligence
has just been received that M'rs Thos
Wells, or. of ,`,Missouri is dead. The de-
ceased was one of the first settlers of Stan
ley township. She was a native of Ireland
and came hero with her husband, who died
a few years ago, when this county was an
unbroken forest, She went to Missouri a
couple of years ;ago and had been living
with her children there eyer since. Four
sons and two daughters ;remain to mourn
her loss Three sons end one daughter
live in Missouri, one son and one daughter
in Manitoba. Tho body of the deceased
will bo brought here for interment. Mrs
Wells was a kind and obliging neighbor.
Though far advanced in life she seemed
quite strong almost to the time of her death
'he was eighty.two years old. The de•
ceased was a consistent member of the
Presbyterian church, and her death will bo
much regretted by all her old neighbors.
