The reverberating sounds of sal*

ing, was enough to make the deceas*
ed much lauded warrior, Gen. Grant,
turn over in his narrow chamber and
request that “noise” tp be stopped.
But then the General acknowledged
that he was not a judge in such
matters. He knew two tunes, one
was “Yankee Doodle” and the other
wasn’t Dr. Johnson, the compiler
of, that work of so many subjects,
would probably have been delighced
could he have heard Clinton, “army”
music in “.Fleet Street;’ as, under
very favorable conditions, he could
tell the difference between the
sounds of a baud organ and a church
bell.

Sunshine.
There is talk of a garden party at
Sunshine. It is to be held, we under
stand, at the residence of Mr, Isaac
Rogerson, The place is one well
suited-for^the purpose, arid one in
which the visitors will find plenty of
room to move around, A garden
party ib something new in the history
of Sunshine, and in our opinion a
Btepin the right direction/ Success
to the enterprise.
All the talk in this part of the sec
tion is the failure of the spring wheat
crop. One man not far from here had
twenty acres under spring wheat and
.lie says that out -of that he will not
have twenty bushels of wheat, As
a result of the failure of this “crop
jU^|\e.re will be more fall wheat sown.
Many farmers are be.gi.nn.iog>to realize
that it is more profitable to raise cat
tle than-to grow wheat. The recent
tain storms have spoiled the later
crop -in some places. The hail in
