Horrible Double Murder.
A Paris cable says : The etory of a ter-
rible double murder comes from Tours.
About a week ego a wealthy aged couple
named Delhoretant, residing be that city,
myeterionely disappeared, and their neigh-
bors, thinking there was something wrong,
notified the police, who forced the doors of
the old couple's house, when the discovery
was made that a horrible crime had been
committed. Both the man and hie wife
had been brutally murdered and the house
stripped of everything of value that could
be conveniently carried away. The bodies
of the aged viotirae presented a ghastly
appeerance, the household dogs having
been driven by hanger to feed upon the
corpses, largo portiono of which had been
devoured by the animals. No arreste have
as yet been made.
A. Crazy Pickpocket.
A New York despatch says Billy
Bennett, a profeesionol pickpocket, who
has served several terms of imprisonment,
went to the police headquarters last night
and said be had knit learned he was a son-
in-law of jay Gonld, and that he WaS going
to secure minima by the sale of a rnedioine
that would ottre all the ills of the human
race. Bennett was eont to the hospital, it
being evident he west:tram+.
A terrible railroad accident imottrred

Tamboy, on Monday. Two exprees trains

LURED TO DEATIL.
Dazzled by it Woman'Beady Dr. Linder
mann Becomes a Victim.
MAY BE ONS 01' A flERIEB OF 015I741E8.
A Monaco cable says A man and a
woman were arrested here WedneaanY
evening charged with the murder of a
physician in December last. Their arrest
has caused a eenuation because the crime
is a direct counterpart or reproduction of
the orirae for whit% Michael Eyrand
recently suffered the death penalty in the
Place de Lamm:let. From the meagre
&mile obtainable from the polies it appears
that in December lest the body of an
English physician, a Dr. Lindermann, of
Manoheeter, was found deed in a ravine
near San Remo. The finding of the dead
body was followed by an °fade' investige.
tion, which, it was anndunced, resulted in
the authorities! of San Remo coming to the
conclusion that it we either a ottee of
suicide or elee that Dr. Lin.dermann met
his death by accident through falling down
the ravine some dark night while out
walking.
It now appears that the police allowed
the suioide or accident theory to get abroad
in order to better enable the police to
follow out the real theory—that of murder.
It was thought likely that the murderer or
murderers, upon hearing thee the authori-
ties of San lien10 had arrived at the con.
elusion that the English physician'death
was caused by accident or suicide, would
relax their vigilance, take fewer preemie.
Hone to conceal their crime end thus fall
more readily into the hands of justice.
From the moment the dootor's body was
Sound the ruthoritios of San Remo never
ceased their investigation, and gradually
wove a net of evidence around the doctor's
murderers which yesterday resulted in the
arrest of a man and woman, who are
(Merged with having murdered Dr. Linder.
mann.
The woman, it appeare, was of the seduc-
tive character of Gabrielle Bompard,
Eyraud's mistrees, and she used her bright
eyes to lure the dootor to lodgings ehe
occupied at San Remo. As to what actually
took place after the =Man had enticed her
victim into her room little is nottmlly
known here, owing to the fact that the
police are not yet prepared to give all the
fads to the public. However, it is con-
cluded that the doctor when in the woman's
apartments was drugged, murdered and
robbed by the woman who had bewitched
him, and that the latter wee assisted in the
perpetration of the orime by the man
supposed to be her lover, who was taken
into custody with her.
The arrests have calmed much commo-
tion here. It has even been rumored tint
the men and woman in custody may have
other and similar crimes charged e,gainet
them, end that the woman may have been
used to hire other mon to their doom. In
places like this, where the finding of bodies,
generally oases of supposed suicide, is not

TR IFE'10 ItS GIRLS.
Chinese Children Traleed for a Life of De-
gration in San Francisco Dens.
A San Francisco despatch says: The
fact is now pretty well established that
Chinese girls ere secretly sold in this city
for slaves. For years Miss Culbertson,
who is executive bead of the Presbyterian
Mission at No. 933 Seoramento street, had
dareSi much to save Chinese girls and
women from actuel slavery and enforced
degradation. Her life has been threatened
by highbindere repeatedly, but he has
never faltered in leer work. The home has
screened about 300 females, of whioh, it is
claimed, neerly all were slaves, possessing
a moneyed value of from e500 to $2,000.
Attention has been attracted to the home
during the past few dap by a case pending
in court. Woon Tsin, n Chineee, girl 11
yeare old, was rescued from e man who
boughs her of her father. The 'ether a few
years ago lost his wife and four children by
death. The fifth child, little Woon Tsin,
then aged 6, was sold to Kum Mein so
Chinese proouress. The father then Belied
for China, leaving Woon Tein in the sole
care and mercy of Kum Mean The price
the father received' for his daughter paid
his pasesee back to Chine,.
Woon Tein was found at Kum Mah's
den in Bartlett alley. It was discovered
that she wee gent deity by Kum Male to a
piece of ill -repute on errands. The girl
watt then errested end placed in the charge
of Mies Culberston. Kum Dish immediately
began a etragele for her possession, and
the cam is still pending.
Mies Culbertson said to -day " There
are without doubt scores of female Chinese
slaves in San Francisco to -day. Most of
the young Chinese girls who came here are
bought as shoves, for whom cash has been
'mid to their parents. In many oases they
are kidnapped or are deluded into coming
here by felse pretences. There are few
who come themselves."
Recently, after trying in vain to evade
the Restriction Act, two young Chinese
girls were remanded and teken down to the
dock to be sent to Hong Kong. At the
dcok they manifested the greatest terror,
and told of the terrible torture they would
be subjected to on their return to China,
became they had failed to perjure their
way through the courts in San Francisco.
Miss Culberteon has found children
under 5 years being roared for immoral
purposes. • Among her evidences of weleat
fs going on is a bill of sale for a girl—and
ale° the contract, which the girl who was
sold.witnessed by making the impression
of her thumb dipped in red ink.

Blunioipal Hospital in Moabit, one of the
departments of which is under Dr. Koch
laimsolf. The reports extend only to the
end of 1890. They comprise about eight
weeks, and oontain no final results, but
their contente are nevertheless of great
importance. During the time in question
about 17,500 injections were made on 2,172
patients. The greatest number of injern
tions received by one person was 54. The
largest dose wee 3.826 grammes. Most of
the reports contain exact histories of the
cases. Opinions differ considerably as to
the value of the fluid as a diagnostic and
in discovering tuberculosis of internal
omen. Of 1,061 patients suffering from
internal tuberculoeis, 13 were cured, 171
considerably improved, 194 improved, 586
not improved, and 46 died. Of 708
patients with external tuberculosis, 15 were
