A Paris cable says : The etory of a ter- rible double murder comes from Tours. About a week ego a wealthy aged couple named Delhoretant, residing be that city, myeterionely disappeared, and their neigh- bors, thinking there was something wrong, notified the police, who forced the doors of the old couple's house, when the discovery was made that a horrible crime had been committed. Both the man and hie wife had been brutally murdered and the house stripped of everything of value that could be conveniently carried away. The bodies of the aged viotirae presented a ghastly appeerance, the household dogs having been driven by hanger to feed upon the corpses, largo portiono of which had been devoured by the animals. No arreste have as yet been made. A. Crazy Pickpocket. A New York despatch says Billy Bennett, a profeesionol pickpocket, who has served several terms of imprisonment, went to the police headquarters last night and said be had knit learned he was a son- in-law of jay Gonld, and that he WaS going to secure minima by the sale of a rnedioine that would ottre all the ills of the human race. Dazzled by it Woman'Beady Dr. Linder mann Becomes a Victim. MAY BE ONS 01' A flERIEB OF 015I741E8. A Monaco cable says A man and a woman were arrested here WedneaanY evening charged with the murder of a physician in December last. Their arrest has caused a eenuation because the crime is a direct counterpart or reproduction of the orirae for whit% Michael Eyrand recently suffered the death penalty in the Place de Lamm:let. From the meagre &mile obtainable from the polies it appears that in December lest the body of an English physician, a Dr. Lindermann, of Manoheeter, was found deed in a ravine near San Remo. The finding of the dead body was followed by an °fade' investige. tion, which, it was anndunced, resulted in the authorities! of San Remo coming to the conclusion that it we either a ottee of suicide or elee that Dr. Lin.dermann met his death by accident through falling down the ravine some dark night while out walking. It now appears that the police allowed the suioide or accident theory to get abroad in order to better enable the police to follow out the real theory—that of murder. It was thought likely that the murderer or murderers, upon hearing thee the authori- ties of San lien10 had arrived at the con. elusion that the English physician'death was caused by accident or suicide, would relax their vigilance, take fewer preemie. Hone to conceal their crime end thus fall more readily into the hands of justice. From the moment the dootor's body was Sound the ruthoritios of San Remo never ceased their investigation, and gradually wove a net of evidence around the doctor's murderers which yesterday resulted in the arrest of a man and woman, who are (Merged with having murdered Dr. Linder. mann. The woman, it appeare, was of the seduc- tive character of Gabrielle Bompard, Eyraud's mistrees, and she used her bright eyes to lure the dootor to lodgings ehe occupied at San Remo. As to what actually took place after the =Man had enticed her victim into her room little is nottmlly known here, owing to the fact that the police are not yet prepared to give all the fads to the public. However, it is con- cluded that the doctor when in the woman's apartments was drugged, murdered and robbed by the woman who had bewitched him, and that the latter wee assisted in the perpetration of the orime by the man supposed to be her lover, who was taken into custody with her. The arrests have calmed much commo- tion here. It has even been rumored tint the men and woman in custody may have other and similar crimes charged e,gainet them, end that the woman may have been used to hire other mon to their doom. In places like this, where the finding of bodies, generally oases of supposed suicide, is not an infrequent occur:mime, it is not aston- ishing that the wildest theories have been advanced, and that the people fancy, per- haps, the woman has made it e businessto decoy successful players into her apart. ments, and that they may he.vo been both robbed and murdered, and their bodies placed eo that they would be classed as viatims of ill -luck at the gaming tables of Monte Carlo or elsewhere. JUMPED OVERBOARD. -- A Despondent Brooklynite's Desperate Attempt at Suicide. A New York despatch says: John Braun, aged 85 to.day boarded the ferryboat James liaterbury, running from Houston street, in this oity, to Grand street, Brook- lyn. When the boat had got well out into the stream Braun leaped overboard. Directly he came to the surface the paseen. gem on the boat saw him raise both arms aloft and strike at his head. The Water- bury's engines were stopped and with boathooks the casok hands hauled Bream aboard. Strapped to his wrists were two sharp -pointed knives, and with these while in the water he had made several severe wounds in his breast, which accounted for the motions that the witnesses to his plunge had seen. The weapons were unstrapped and Brenn, after the Brooklyn slip had been reached, was taken to the hospital. The surgeon who attended him said he was not likely to recover. Braun Wae formerly it barber in Brooklyn. He has been without employment for some aim°, and became a victim of despondenoy. He has no home and no family. Doctors' Fatal Feud. A Wheeling, W. 'Va., despatch says: Dr. George Baird, a prominent physician and ex -mayor of this oity, was shot twice and killed yesterday by Dr. George J. Gerrison, an equally prominent phyeiman, a member of the State Board of Health, and formerly city health officer. They hed been enemies for a long time. Yesterday morning they met on 10th sereet. No one knows how the dispute started, but it is supposed that Baird made an offensive remark to Garri- son. The latter drew his revolver and fired twice, sending a ball into Baird's right ear and another into hie left eye. Baird staggered back and fell dead. Garrison was tweeted. Duck -Hunting Tragedy. A St. Louis despatch says: A man named Fowler and three boys were in two boats duck hunting on ri lake in Faulkner county on Friday. Fowler and is boy named Lawson occupied one of the boats. When in the middle of the lake Lawson'e gun was accidentally discharged. The full load of dnokshot entered Fowler's breast just below the heart. Fowler fell into the lake. Lawson and the boys in the other boat tried to rescue Fowler, and their boats were capsized. One of the boys was drowned. The other reached shore with Fowler, but the' latter expired ahortly afterwards. A New York Murder Mystery. A New York despatch says: Early last night the polio° found a well-dressed man about 55 years, of age lying on the sidewalk in feont of 357 West 22nd street, uncon- scious and surrounded by a pool of blood. He was taken to the hoepital, where it was Sound he was suffering from a fractured skull, beeidee stab wetinde and contudions of the head. Nothing by which he oould be identified was found on him. There were no valuables and his overooet was missing, The police can give no eolution of the mystery. Electric Fireworks. An eleotrician who has made a specialty of spectacular oleotricity nye the day ie not far off when eleatrical fireworks will snpercede thaw now used. He declares That for a comparatively moderate outlay he could arrange an electrical display that Would last for many gearci and could be repeated as often as &aired. It would comprise rookete, Roman candlee, vvheele, Niagara fella and all the modern pyrotetibt Weal effeets. FROM TRE FATHERLAND.
