home loosing hale and hearty. -Mrs.
'Geo. Collins, of Bad Axe.,Mielr., is the
guest of her cousin Mr. A. E. Hodgert
for a few days. -Mr. Jas. hackney for-
merly of this place but for the last four
years has been learning the milling
business in Simcoe, is now taking a
course in the Canada business College
in Stratford, -Mr. Will Hackney ex-
teacher of Mount Pleasant.is pursuing
his studies in the High School Strat-
ford.
Hensall.
A shooting match in connection with
Ed. Ilossenberr•y's Hotel wilt take place
on Tuesday, January 20th, consisting
of Glass Balls, Geese, Turkeys and
Ducks, after which a raffle will be
held. In the evening a dance • will
take place, for which a first class
string hand has been secured. Come
one, come all and enjoy the sport as a
big time is expected.

The shooting thatch, which: was
to have taken place on New Year's
day in connection with the Grant
House, here, took place on Thursday
last. The rifle shooting was far super-
ior to any your correspondent has wit
missed this season'. The following are
the names and scores for the glass -ball

Bossenberry, 10; I3. Grieve, 9; E.
lfnehley, 7; Johnston, 7; Geo. Grant,
5; J. Nevins, 4; W. Pinkney, 3; James
Grieve, 3. -Mr. Gale and Kane, absents
for the Ontario -ledge Fence Co., are
doing a rushing business. We can
safely say without exaggeration that

Mr. John Brown lost a valuable spawn
of horses last week in a rather strange
way. It appears he and a young man
named Mr. Andrew Glendeningi start-
ed to drive to the woods through Mr.
D. Brophey's farm and it crossing a
small creek' the horses' got frightened
and crowded of the bridge, plunging
head foremost into the water, which
was only about 8 or 4 feet deep: and•
before they could' be got out 'they were
both druwncd.-Mr. Edgar Jennings
preached a very interesting and in-
structive sermon to the young men in
Grace church a week ago. His hearers
were highly pleased to have him back
after an absence of several months in
London. -Mr. Sinith and wife, of Oil
Springs, passed through here last Mon-
day on their way to Grand Bend where
he intends to carry on the blacksmith
business. -Mr. W. -J. Wilson spent • a
few days in Toronto last' 'eek Woking
up new dry goods for the 4pring trade.
Mr.. W. J. Wilson bought a spall of her=
ses of kr. R'm. Wicket, who has decid-
ed not to go into farming and talks of
learning the blacksmithing trade -The

Huron Sabbath School Con-
vention,
The annual convention will be held
at Brussels, on Wednesday and Thurs-
day, January 21st and 22nd. The first
day's meeting will be held in Melville:
(Presbyterian) church, and the second
day's in the Methodist church. It is a
long time since so good a program
has been prepared. `l'he Subjects are
practical ones, upon which light ..will
be found useful to eatery Sabbath
School worker in the county, and the
speakers have been selected for their
knowledge of and experience in this
particular work. It is expected that
the energetic and very able Secretary,
of the. Provincial Association, Mr. Alf.
Day, will be present at the different
sittings. The first 'evening's mass
meeting will be addressed by Rev. 3.
Ross, Rev. Dean Craig, A. H. Manning
and Rev J. IL Simpson, and the second
evening by Rev. W. H. Geddies, Rev.
W. Casson and Mr. Day. The differ-
ent topics for discission will be intro-
duced as follows: The lesson and the
Minister, Mr. J. H. McHardy, Beimore;
The lesson and the Home, Rev. A. Me
Millan, Auburn; The lesson and the
Teacher, Rev. Mr. Wright, Gorrie; The

Agricultural Society.
The annual meeting of the .Stephen
and Usborne Agricultural Society was
held in Town Hall, here, on Thursday
Last at which the attendance was nut
overly large. The Treasurer's state.
ment showed that the society was in a
favorable standing with $26 in the
Treasurer's hands, after paying the
sum of ;$1300 of indebtednes�l incurred!
in 1888 in. the purehase of buildings,
which amount was $700. Prizes to the
amount of $86 .are still standing out
unpaid, which will leave an indebted
ness of $460. The following officers
were elected for the ensuing year:
