The success which has so far attend-'
kd. the atterp is to substitute the Brit-
.sih for the American market in the
matter -of eggs, will, doubtless, lead to
an zaFt attempt toSu1PlytlcEnglish
mar-
ket .Nvith poultry, on which the JcI in -
ley bill imposes a duty of three cents
,;per pound for live, and fire cents per
pouf d for dressed. No doubt the poult-
'y dealers of Boston and New York,
'srho have been a1'eustomed for Fears
to conte to Canada for their Christmas
9)oultry and purchase it, literally "ton
7)y ton," will Coup' again this year, 05
it is impossible for those cities to obtain
l sul, icient supply with recourse to
Canada and the, American consumer
will have to pay the fluty; but it will
`:tae as well for Canadian shippers to try
the English market; also. The total
•;value of poultry and game imported
into the United Kingdom in 1889 was
1;2;302,9.44, of which $5,933, was front
the United, and $780 from British Pos-
sessions. Our exports of poultry last
year was valued at $114,480, of which
`the United States took $111,005. This
is but a fly -bite in comparison with our
,egg trade, but still it is worth looking
.after, and, in view of tho large quant-
ity imported by Great Britian it is evi-
dent that our market there might be
:cnnuch larger than the one the McKinley
-bill tries to close on us. The English
:supplies were drawn principally from
France, ($961,832) Belgium, ($508,14S)
.Russia, ($336,403;) Germany,($194,736)
.:and Holland, („101,776). There is no
question about our being able to land
-poultry in Great Britain in good order
and there ought to be fairley remuner-
ative market there. In this connection
it Ma,y be well to call the attention to
Poultry dealers to the annual fairs
which it has been customary to hold in
.Dec. at Brockville, Merrickville,Smith's
1'al.is and other places,where American
buyers are accustomed to come, and
where tons and tons of poultry have
been sold, somctimes as much as twenty
- or thirty. tons in a day. Poultry raisers
•ii those localities would also do well to
;put themselves in communication with
dealers in Montreal and other places,
...who might be disposed to try the e c-
'-periment of shipping to Great Britain.

A Startling Contradiction,
To the Editor o/'the Adrocate.
DEa.R Stn. -There is an old adage
that says "a prophet is not without
honor save in his own country," and
the saying is generally accepted as con-
taining much:truth. Indeed it is ex-
panded into the generally accepted be-
lief that true merit, whether it be that
of an individual, or that of some lucd
icinary.preparation is much more like-
ly to meet with popular approval at a
distance than at home. Nasal Balm,
acknowledged as - being the greatest
remedy for cold in the head and ca-
tarrh, ever offered the people of Canada
affords a striking instance of the fact
that popular opinion, for''once, at least
is wrong. From the outset its popular.
ity in the home of its manufacture has
been unbounded and constantly in
creasing. In evidence of this we offer
testimonials from two Brockville gentle-
men who are known throughout the
Dominion.
D. Derbyshire, Esq., Mayor of Brock-
ville and for the past two years Presi-
dent of the Ontario Creamery Associa-
tion, says. -"Your Nasal Balm is truly
a wonderful remedy. I may say that
I was afflicted with a distressing' case
of catarrh, accompanied by a number
of its disagreeable symptoms. I had
tried other remedies, but without avail
and well-nigh dispaired of a cure'when
I was induced to give Nasal Balm a
trial. Its effects were wonderful, and
the results arising from its use surpris-
ing'. Briefly stated; it stops the drop-
pings into the throat, sweetens the
breath, relieves the headaches that fol -
ow catarrh, and in fact makes one feel
altogether like a new man. No one
who is suffering, from catarrh ill any of
its stages should lose a moment ingiv
ing this remedy a trial."
James Smart, Esq., Brockyille,Sheriff
of the United Counties of Leeds and
Grenville, says: -"It would be impos-
sible to speak too extravagantly of the
wonderful curative properties of Nasal.
Balm. I suffered for upwards of a
month from a severe cold in the head,
which, despite the use of other remed-
ies, was becoming worse and develop.
in0 into catarrh. I procured a bottle
of Nasal Balm and was relieved from
the first application and thorougly cur-
ed within twenty-four hours. I cheer-
fully add my testimony to the value of
Nasal Balm."
These are but two illustrations out of
the hundreds of testimonials the pro-
prietors of Nasal Balm have had from
all parts of the Dominion, but they
ought to convince the most skeptical.
If your dealer does not keep Nasal
Balm it will be sent on receipt of price
-50 cents small size and 81 large size
bottle -by addressing FULFORD & Co.,
