The Stimulus of Debt.
If a young man has a good head on
him it is not only safe, but advisable,
to assume financial obligations where a
way can be seen through it by perse-
verance and economy. A fool can do
nothing either in debtor out. Debt is
a stimulus to exertion. The hammer
of the mechanic who has purchased his
little home on part credit is heard to
resound earlier in the morning and
later in the evening: He expends testi
money for frivolities, bezause "that
mortgage must be met."- The merch-
ant in debt takes better care of his
stock in trade, buys closer and is more
agreeable to customers. The farmer
goes to town less, snakes fewer purchas-
es not absolutely needed. Debt is a
wonderful stimulus to thrift. There
are few farmers who did not go in debt
for their farms. It enables them to
secure a home at once, and instilled
into them good habits to pay for it. It
is wise for a youn; couple without
means to purchase a modest home and :several light furls of snow the heaviest
being on Monday morning of this week,
when it had quite a wintry appear

PECULIAR INFATUATION.
Different Methods of following the
Injunctioxn. ',Love one Another."
Do men ever fall in love with each
other? Women do. Not long ago a
young woman in New Jersey was mar•
ried to a young laborer on her: father's
farm. Sometime afterward it was dis-
covered that the husband was a fe-
male; the young wife refused, how-
ever, though earnestly entreated by.
her friends, to give up her chosen con-
sort. The strangest part of the dis-
covery was the - fact that the bride
knew her husband` was a woman be-
fore she was led to the altar.
If men do not exhibit this strange
infatuation for one of their own 'sex,
they at least often-times give evidence
of the fact that they love one another.
There are many instances on record
where one pian has given his life for
another. There are many more in-
stances where men !Jaye given life to
another.

Tighe has prepared a special choir of
local talent to sing the Mass. Miss
Downey, Miss T illorau and Lir. Weigle
of Seaforth and Mr. Nevin, of London,
will assist the choir and render same
special music. It is proper to seer- a
word of the wolf: done. The interior
of the church 1188 been .eutirely renov-
ated. W.11. Bevitt, of St. Thomas, the
contractor, has given us as pretty e.
church as can bus found for miles a-
round. The ceiling and walls are all
done in oils. Tho colors blend moat
harmoniously, while here and there the
eye is arrested to note an appropriate
religious embleiii done with tfte si:111-o2
a real artist. Mr. Bevitt courts the+
criticism of neighboring artists- Be-
sides that the most attractive feature
is a new main altar presented by, M'r.
Barry. The alter cost $175, and was
made by the Bennett Furnishing Co.,
London. It is of oak and black walnut
built ie. the gothic style, the propos
tions thsitig Illy -we 11 carried enter-wTlci;
workmanship is a credit to the Com-
pany. Mr. Barry may be justly proud
of his gift. Next to this is another ail -
ter and group of statues presented by
Mrs. L. Barry at a cost of $100. This
group of statues is the first erected ui
this part of Canada. It is made by C.
B. Lanetot, Montreal. The Catholics of
McGillivray are proud of their littIe
chapel and thankful to these generous
donators. The painting and decorat-
ing, costing. $457, is paid for by priv-
ate Subscriptions ranging from $50 to
$10. All are invited to assist at the
reopening next Sunday. A special col-
lection will be taken at the door. Ser
