The Popular Summer Besert.
Grand, Bend' has now assumed to be
one of the mat popularSimuner resorts
and waterinse places in Ontario. It is
on one of the moat pieturesqait spots on
the shoreLake gluon& The beau-
tiful trees and loialy scenery together
with the refreshing breezes prove this
to be a fact. A few years ago it was
not what it is to day, and scarcely any
campers could be found in the vicinity'
for pleasure, except those who ,enie.Yed
lishipg and httnting, but the scenes
have changed since, then., Taday we
are proud to say that nearly thirty
families have enjoyed the feativities of
camp life on these beautiful shores of
Lake Huron. Grand Bend lays about
fourteen miles west pf the village, and
abet thirteen miles from Parklaillgail-
roads running into both of thesetpoiets
se that access is easy to this famous re
sort, Next year this popular place pro-
mises tir eclipse those of all former
years, as our popular townsman, Mr.
David Johns has purchased about
thirty-five acres on the north side,
which fie intends beautifying for pienic
grounds and for campers. We under
stand he, will clean the grounds up
thoroughly haye the same fenced, cot -
ages will be ereete,d,boats kept for hire,
tents for the -,,same .purpose, in fact
everything that tends to make the
camper and pleasure seeker comfort-
able and that an enjoyable 'time may,
be' spent: • The land he has purchased
is a beahtilikt scene and wheat under-
bruShed alid cleaned will be one of the
most deliShtful as well as beautiful re.
sorts to beifound in :Western Ontario.
Mr. BreOet, the genial landlord of the

failed to ascertain. We give a list of
campers, the names of their camp and
a description thereof. The list is not a
full one, but we give it as received by
us:—On leaving the sidewalk the first
habitation we see is a large tent, sit-
uated on the south side of the road,
beautifully painted, and occupied by
Mr. E. J. Phippen and wife and two
sons, of Parkhill. They are a very
happy family and are always cheerful
in rendering assistance to any who
may need it. One of the young men
is generally engaged in taking photos
of the different camps and their occu-
pants. On passing down on, the same
side a short distance, we arrive at the
head quarters of Capt. Ross, of Park-
hill, "Alumbagh," which is distinguish-
ed by a heavily loaded banana tree.
The occupants consist of the Capt. and
his son, Willie, accompanied during the
day by Miss Katie and Mrs. Ross, the
latter who have rooms at the Hotel. .A.
little further west and there we see
"Cosy Oak," where the Rev. Mr. Lon -
head's three sons, accompanied by the
Rev. MraMalitis and his nephew, all of
Parkhill.' They are a happy family
and are enjoying themselves immense-
ly. Ahnost directly at the back of the
"Cosy Oak" can be found a camp of
bachelors, who hail from Mitchell, with
three exceptions, and the camp is dub-
bed "The Mitchell Tent". The _occu-
pants (except when courting) ' are
Messrs. Fred and Howard Thompson,
and Will Dent, Mitchell; Carl Lynn,
Madoc'Fred Ayres, Holmesville; and
A. Ailtin, Orangeville. This camp is
situated back in a thicket, no doubt
on account that they do not want the
ladies to see their cookery. A little
further west towards the lake can he
found Mr. Harry Bishop's tent, who
hails from Parkhill. Although Mr.
Bishop is not always under the canvas,
on_ account of business, it is always
booming' with merriment and pleasure.
