Routh Huron County Orange Lodge. The semi-annual meeting of the County Orange Lodge, of South Huron, will be held in the Orange Hall, Clin- ton, on Saturday, June 14th, at two o'clock p. m. ' The Exeter School Board gives not- ice that in future any person caught committing any depredations around the school or grounds will be dealt with most severely. of late several windows have been broken and flower beds destroyed, and the trustees are determined to put a stop to such acts. One day last week, Mr. Horner, of the Carling Brewing and Malting Co., of London, visited Exeter and called on Mr. John Leathern, of the Mansion House, who was until recently with the company, and presented him with a handsom guinea gold maltose cross, the trade mark of the company, which bears the following inscription: "From the Officers of the Carling B. & M. Co., London, to John Leathern." It is a beautiful present and shows the high esteem in which the officers held Mr. Leathern. Personal ;QLention. July Celebration In Clinton. The annual Orange Celebration of South Huron will be held at Clinton this vear. They have many induce- ments for the pleasure seekers on that day. There will be one of the largest processions ever held in Western Ont- ario. The speakers for the day will be N. Clarke Vv allace, M. P., Grand' Master and Sovereign, Dalton McCarthy, M. P., E. F. Clarke, M. P. P., Rev. Mr. Mc- Kee, of Belfast, Ireland, and Rev. Mr. McDonagh, London. The railways have granted very favorable rates to those wishing to go. There will be several competitions for good prizes, in which all the lodges will be interested in. The town will be. handsomely dec- orated. The attractions already ment- ioned warrant all to go and spend a day of pleasure at Clinton on July 12. Byers' Colored Comedy Company. S. B. layers' Colored Musical Comedy Co. appear here for a period of three nights, commencingto-night, for the benefit of the Exeter Brass Band. The Toronto Empire of April 22nd says: "In these days when the theatre goers has become accustomed to the burnt cork and negro imitation of minstrel troupes, a genuine colored company is considerable of a novelty. Hyers' Colored Musical Comedy Co. that ap pears at the Acedeu y of Music this week gives an anentertainment above the average of ordinary minstrel shows.. The company comprises several clever artists whose singing and dancing character impersonations are decidedly clever. Among them such favorites es "Mary's gone wid a Coon," "De court house inde Sky," Old Red Cradle,"fig- ure on the program and were excelent- 1,y rendered by melodious voices. Zurich. Our public school teachers attended. the Teachers Convention at. Exeter last week. The flax mill has closed down and will not be opened until July when the. new crop will be in. Our millers are busy noiv in the mill. They have such a large amount of grain on hand they are compelled to work day and night. Tem RECENT STORM, -This week seems to be .a week of storms. A very severe thunder storm passed over this section of the country on Saturday evening. The Evangelical church: was considerably damaged by lightning. The current struck the top of the belfry and passing down the corner to the roof followed the end rafter to the eve ripping and scattering the shingles in every direction. Mr. Foster's house was also considerably damaged. POLITICAL MEETING -.-A public meet- ing was held in Peine's•Hall on Monday evening Mr. Hess, reeve of the town- ship of Hay; was appointed chairman. After a few opening remarks by .the. chairman Mr. R. H. Collins was intro- duced. He spoke for upwards of two hours during which time the very best of order prevailed. Mr. Collins did not ridicule or throw out slurs upon any Berson but delivered a fair, square and nteresting speech Grits and Tories alike paying the strictest attention throughout. TI•IE CaetreraN:-Everything is lively in the village at present owing to the intense interest taken by both parties in the coming election. Everybody seems to be doing his utmost to have the proper candidate returned to the Legislature of Ontario. Messrs. Bow man and Spackman, of Exeter, were in town on Tuesday working up the case for Mr. J. G. Holmes, the Conservative candidate, whi',e Mr. Collins on Monday was "putting in his best digs" for the Reform candidate, Mr. A. Bishop. We would like to say to the electors of South Huron, consider both, sides of the questions placed before you and when you become thoroughly convined which is the proper step to take, take that step fearlessly and poll your vote independent of any influence wielded by either para-.
