Tips for creating a perfect holiday centrepiece
Elegant centrepiece
• Spray dried hydrangea with gold,
silver or copper paint which can be
purchased at an craft store. They can
also be left plain. Insert the flowers
throughout the Christmas tree. “It
looks wonderful and elegant,” said
Stephenson.
The flowers can also be put into a
fireside basket.
• To bring the scents of the season
into your home, put orange peelings,
cinnamon stick and cloves in a
simmering potpourri pot. Or use an
old pan on low and simmer it on the
stove, being careful not to let it boil
dry.
“It will fill the house with a
seasonal aroma.”
• Take a small bundle of greens (ie:
juniper, spruce, pine or holly). Tie
with a festive ribbon and attach them
to the backs of your kitchen or
dining room chairs.
• Fill a large basket with pine
cones. Scent the cones with
cinnamon diffuser oil. This can be
rescented throughout the holidays.
Tie a seasonal ribbon around the
basket. “It makes a wonderful accent
and has a heavenly aroma.”
• Don’t forget to edit when
decorating for the holidays. In other
words, put some of the all-year-
round decor items away to bring in
the Christmas decorations for a less
cluttered look.
• Embellish the tops of your
cupboards with fresh greens and/or
grapevine and white-mini-lights.
“This gives a festive feeling to the
home and creates a little ambient
lighting when used alone in the
evening.”
• If you don’t have a tree skirt, use
about two metres of a seasonal
colour fabric or white or cream tulle.
Swaddle it around the bottom of the
tree with raw edges turned under.
