FROM BELGRAVE Institute welcomes guests The Belgrave Women’s Institute welcomed many guests to their Christmas dinner held on Dec. 13. The president Audrey Fenton, welcomed everyone. Grace was sung and the meal was served by the UCW ladies. Mary Hunter read a Christmas poem, then introduced Audrey Bos who >;poke of her bike trip across Canada, from Vancouver to Nova Scotia, last summer. She was part of a group of the Christian Reformed Church who were celebrating their anniversary. She showed pictures of the preparations for the ride, the other bikers and support team and the scenery of different areas of Canada. John Roberts led in singing Christmas carols and sang two solos, accompanied by his wife Kay. Doreen Marks gave out door prizes and announced that the next meeting will be a potluck lunch for everyone on Jan. 17 at noon with entertainment provided by Ross Procter. Knox news The white gift service at Knox United Church, Belgrave was held on Sunday, Dec. 11, with the Sunday school providing the leadership. Elizabeth Procter played Christmas music before the service and was joined by Elizabeth Stennett at the piano for the hymns. Lila Procter and daughter Jessica opened the service with the hymn sing, and Lila welcomed everyone to the service. The Advent candles were lit by Bill and Muriel Coultes, with readings by Autumn, Sydney and Alison Wightman. Jessica Procter led in The Lord’s Prayer. Laura Higgins led in the responsive psalm, and Trevor Raynard read the scripture. Andrew Procter gave a contemporary reading of A Different Night Before Christmas. Eighteen members of the junior choir sang, The Friendly Beasts, led by Lila Procter with Elizabeth Stennett at the piano. Members of the Sunday school presented a drama entitled Manger Mania. The senior students told the story as the younger ones acted it out. The white gift offering and regular offering were collected by Andrea Shiell, Trevor Raynard, Kathleen Stennett and Matthew Cottrill. Brianna Yuill read the dedication of the offerings. Heidi Raynard offered the prayers of the people and announced the last hymn, Go Tell It On The Mountain. Rev. Ethel Miner Clare thanked all the children of the Sunday school, the Sunday school teachers and parents for their help with the service. Members of the youth group, Sunday school and anyone interested were invited to go carolling around the village in the evening with Jim Hunter and his horse team pulling the wagon. Snacks were provided at the church at the end of the singing. PEOPLE AROUND BELGRAVE By Linda Campbell Call 357-2188 Over 50 Campbell relatives gathered at St. John’s Anglican Church in Brussels on Sunday, Dec. 11 for their Christmas get-together, hosted by John and Linda Campbell. After John welcomed everyone, Nancy Jardin led in prayer. Everyone enjoyed a potluck buffet. After the singing of Here Comes Santa Claus, accompanied by Gladys VanCamp at the piano, Santa arrived and handed out gifts and treat bags to the children. Kendall Jardin entertained with a solo. Linda Campbell (Mrs. Bruce) was the winner of a quiz held by Lome Campbell. Door prizes were won by Linda Campbell (Mrs. Bruce), Gladys VanCamp, Maureen Campbell, Irwin Campbell and Clare VanCamp. An enjoyable afternoon was Hunters find stolen car On Dec. 19 at approximately 9 a.m. Huron OPP were requested to attend a farmer's field located on Nile Road in Ashfield Colborne Wawanosh. Hunters advised police they had' found a black Honda Civic in- a bush area. The police investigation* revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen from the Toronto area in August. Friends, neighbours and relatives wish to congratulate Andrew and Sarah Campbell on the birth of their daughter, Charlotte Anne, bom on Friday, Dec. 9 at the Clinton and District Hospital. A New Year’s Eve Party will be held on Saturday, Dec. 31 at the Women’s Institute Hall in Belgrave. There will be cards at 8 p.m., followed by dancing and a potluck meal at midnight. Club enjoys festive dinner The Belgrave Community Club held its Christmas dinner at the Community Centre, catered by Marilyn Freiburger and family, with grace being said by Rev. Ethel Miner-Clare. The president, Muriel Coultes, thanked the Freiburgers for a delicioius turkey meal and introduced the guest, Bruce Robertson who played guitar and sang many numbers and led in Christmas carol singing. The floral arrangements made by Jane Grasby were given out as door prizes., The next meeting will be on Jan. 6 at 1:30 p.m. at the Community Centre and the first shoot party for 2006 will be on Friday, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m. Singing along Grade 3/^ at Grey Central helped spread Christmas cheer by singing Christmas carols at the Christmas concert this week.
