Brussels Legion sets Christmas hours
By Jo-Ann McDonald
The Brussels Legion general
meeting for December was held
Dec. 23 with 12 comrades present.
The usual business was conducted.
Christmas hours were discussed.
The Legion will close Christmas Eve
at 6 p.m. On New Year’s Eve it will
also close at 6 but will reopen
upstairs for the New Year’s Eve
dance.
Order tickets at the Branch and
reserve a table. Tickets are also at the
Brussels Variety. They are $5 each.
There will be a potluck lunch.
Youth chairman Sandra Josling
and Comrade Catrina Josling
attended at Grey Central Public
School to present the Remembrance
Day poster, essay and poem winners
with their prizes. The first prize for
primary colour poster went to Lexi
Smith. Second place went to Heidi
Bachert.
A third prize for primary black and
white went to Scott Baan.
In junior colour poster a third
place was presented to Rachel
Schyff and in Intermediate poetry
third place was presented to
Kourtney Pfeiler.
Congratulations to all who took
part.
Dans will be held Thursday
evening as usual with Christmas
snacks to be enjoyed.
A good bunch was there last week
but no results were available.
The Friday night Christmas
potluck and gift exchange saw only a
small group get together for the
delicious meal and enjoyable gift
exchange. A wonderful variety of
dishes was on hand to be tasted and
enjoyed.
Santa Lisa Glanville conducted the
gift exchange with many interesting
items received.
It was lots of fun for everyone.
This Friday night Dec. 23 chicken
wings will be on the menu.
The Saturday euchre had only
seven-and-a-half tables at play.
The top prize winners were Marie
Stewart and Eileen Sellers with 77
points. Second prize went to Verna
Gibbings and Rita Flynn with 65
points. Two teams tied for third with
64 points and the prize was split
among Glen Sellers, Ed Stewart,
Jack Shiell and Jim Coultes. Low
prize went to Mary Huether and
ElunidMcNair with 47 points. Lucky
with lone hands were players Lloyd
Appleby and Lois Chamney.
There will be a New Year’s euchre
on Dec. 31.
The Christmas meat draws were
held with only 30 lucky people on
hand to win the over 25 prizes.
Chances were good for everyone,
but some seemed luckier than others.
The Sunday night dance featuring
the Ken Scott Orchestra had 72
attending. There were draws for
small Christmas presents.
Veterans Service Officer Randy
Groundwater will be making a visit
Feb. 5. Appointments need to be
made with Comrade Mabel
Glanville.
The Branch was the place to
celebrate Cecil Moore’s 80th
birthday on Sunday afternoon.
exciting and prosperous. We look
