Candle lit
On the fourth Sunday of Advent,
Ron and Betty McCallum greeted
those attending the service at Duff’s
United Church. The lighting of the
Advent wreath candle was by
Monique, Ryan, Adam and Emma
Baan.
The Christmas story unfolded in
Rev. Joan Tuchlinsky’s reflections,
interspersed with many Christmas
carols.
The offering was collected by Ron
McCallum and Don Baan.
The sacrament of communion was
conducted by Rev. Joan, Leona
McDonald, Helen and Michael
Craig.
The Christmas Eve service is at
7:30 p.m. Anyone with musical gifts
to share may call Rev. Joan or Brian.
Christmas morning begins with a
carol-sing at 9:15 a.m. and a joint
Walton-Bluevale service at Duff’s
United Church will celebrate the
birth of Christ at 9:30 a.m. The
service will be at the usual time of
9:30 a.m. on Jan. 1.
Committee reports are due to
Monique Baan by Christmas Day.
Merry Christmas to all from the
Duff’s United Church family.

Welcome home to Margery
Huether who has returned from
Florida to celebrate the Christmas
season with family and friends.
Ed McClure and Bruno Braecker
have returned home from an 11 -day
vacation in Cuba. They were in the
Holquin area and enjoyed beautiful
temperatures, great food, the clean
resort and of course a good time.
Passing time was easy by strolling
the beaches, some requiring suits
and some not.
The Walton Hall was very busy on
the weekend with functions Friday,
Saturday and Sunday.
On Friday evening, it was a
birthday celebration for Janet
Cochrane. There were near 50
family and friends gathered to enjoy
the night. Special guest was an Elvis
impersonator from the Kitchener
area, who put on a great show for
them. He stayed at the Walton Inn
for the night and sang for the Walton
Inn staff after his breakfast. They
report he was very good.
Saturday the Heibein family
gathered for their family Christmas.
On Sunday it was the Bernard family
Christmas.
The Walton Hall is a great place to
gather for the smaller family
gatherings and is quite cosy and
warm with its new furnace and
insulation. Call 887-6735 for info on
the hall.
There were 42 women attending
last week’s United Church Women’s
Christmas meal catered by Beth
Earl. Michelle Hanson was guest
speaker. The program was put on by
Patty Banks, Dianne McCallum,
Donna McClure and Marie
McGavin. They presented a skit
about angels.
Pat Dalton hosted 14 female
neighbours and friends for a Let’s
Put Christmas Aside afternoon tea
, and social visit. Pat served up coffee,
apple cider and a tray of treats to all
and they enjoyed just catching up
and visiting with one another.
The Walton Inn hosted the
Majestic Women’s Institute for a
Santa’s cheering squad
Santa took several elves aside from their busy working schedule to cheer him on while he
practiced for his new career in the NHL during the Blyth Public School Christmas concert Dec.

Have you ever went into the bush
to cut your own Christmas tree? I’m
sure this story will be repeated many
times over the years and
remembered for a long time by the
Glanville children.
The grandchildren of Lome and
Bonnie Glanville said come on, let’s
go get the tree. Off trudged Joelle,
Melissa and Edward with Grandma
Bonnie making their way through
the bush and deep snow. They had
the perfect tree picked out and this
was supposed to be the easy way to
get there. Somehow Grandma
Bonnie didn’t agree when she ended
up face first in the deep snow.
Of course gentleman Edward
rushed to Grandma’s aid, but others
counldn’t resist seeing the humour in
the incident. It will be one of those
stories that will be repeated many
times.
Merry Christmas to the Glanvilles.

Doug and Shawna O’Neill and Mary
McCall. They made the secret and
surprise trip over to attend the
convocation ceremonies at the
London School of Economics,
where daughter Marcy McCall
MacBain was presented with her
Masters Degree in Science. Also
attending was her husband John and
sister Carali, who also attends that
school. It was a complete surprise to
Marcy to have her Canadian family
in attendance.
Celebrating Marcy’s achievement
was great and while there, they also
attended the live theatre productions
of Mary Poppins and Scrooge.
Accompanying the family home
was Carali McCall, who is home
until the New Year to celebrate the *
season of Christmas.
Celebrating their 30th wedding
