They played Elma Logan on Dec. 10. The game started out pretty slow for Brussels. Elma Logan scored three fast ones but Emily Mitchell came back and scored. Delayna Smith assisted. Elma Logan snuck another two by Dawson Peachy who played a great game in net. With seconds left Derrick Waechter scored finishing the game at 5-2. On Dec. 16 the Tykes played the parents. Seth Nichol played well in net and he never let one of his Tykes mom’s shots in. The final score was 7-2. On Dec. 17 the Tykes played at the John Labatt Centre. Brussels Tykes and Novices mixed up the teams and played a great game. The score was 6-2. Waechter played net. Parents and kids faced off at a fun game for Brussels novice hockey Friday, Dec. 16. Final score was smudged a bit to read 39-0 for the kids. (Heather Crawford photo) AA Midgets win first game of round robin playdowns On Saturday, Dec. 17, the Saugeen Maitland AA midget girls played the first game of the three-team round­ robin series to determine who will represent the west division of the North Metro Girls Hockey League. The Lightning defeated London 4- 2 but had to play catch-up hockey for the first two periods. Allison Quennell tied the game 1-1 on a pass from Kendall Whitfield. In the second period, Janette Hammell tied the game 2-2 with the assist going to Jenny Bults. Courtney Sutherland made a Midget Giris face beautiful pass to Hammell for the game winning goal. Whitfield scored the final goal with the assist going to Quennell. The Lightning will continue the series when they host Bluewater on Dec. 30 in Howick, then will travel to play Bluewater in Strathroy on Jan. 2. The next game with London has not been determined. We just want to extend a warm thank you to all of you who have been so wonderful to us in our first few months in business. It was a fast-paced game with Saugeen Shore scoring two goals in the first. The pace picked up slightly in the second. Despite end-to-end action (here was no score change. The third period was quicker again and more exciting for the fans. Saugeen Shores scored two. The Brussels girls were outpassed and outshot but played very well despite a 4-0 loss.
