Many of the people I had never seen before. recent one occurred driving a man, Mel lived in a retirement driveway, but realized it wasn’t our guy. But the driver did pull up and began to blow the snow anyway, then waved and proceeded on to his destination. So, I just wanted to say thank you Ron Root for your kind gesture and to let you know you certainly made difference to my day. Thank you. a neighbours. — Bonnie Gropp - Dianne JoslingThe most when I was Steepe. who home, to visit his friend Ernie Durnin. who lived on a farm northwest of Auburn. Mr. Steepe couldn't remember where Mr. Durnin lived so we kept driving and getting nowhere. We called into this place and a woman came out and said she knew where he lived but it was hard to explain. “I’ll just take you there,” she said and got in her car. We followed and found the place. Now I call that going the second mile, but in this case it was three or four. Now these men had a good visit (not knowing it would be their last as they have since both passed away), all because of the kindness of a woman whom I had never seen before, Debbie Bauer. Thankfully the spirit of Santa Claus is still out there. — Grant Snell, Clinton, ON. can I’d When asked if someone has ever done anything special for me that I remember have to say that it would be the true and consistent friendship of my friend Dianne. She has always been there for me no matter what and she always offers a helping hand or lends an ear. For her friendship I’m truly grateful. — Joan Caldwell I had been having one of those days for several weeks - the kind anything could go ’ did. The morning starting out to be one of those again. We had a lot of snow fall the night before so when the streets were plowed that morning there was a pile of snow left in the driveway. My husband, who had already left for work, called me to say that when I was leaving for work, not to stop when I started to go out the driveway or I would surely be stuck. When I went out to see - I knew the way my luck had been that I had better get the shovel. I no more than started to dig when I heard a tractor coming down the street. I glanced up to see if it was the snowblower coming to do our When I think of good deeds, acts of kindness and generosity, I never need to look further than down my street to find shining examples. For many years after we moved into our current my husband’s job Moving to a new town can be a frightening experience, especially when you don’t have a home to move into or a familiar face to take comfort in. When I was first offered a job at The Citizen I was excited to start something new, something I had been looking forward to through four years of university; a job as a reporter. Reality quickly set in however when I realized that I would be starting out without a home, friends or family close by. I learned quickly that this new village was not the kind of place that would leave a girl stranded or in want of anything. Brenda and John Radford graciously allowed me to stay at their home with them for two weeks before my apartment was ready, providing me with more than meal my and home. Every shop I went into offered me a welcoming smile and patience while I navigated my way through small-town life. After having called what sometimes feels like every household in town asking questions, and taking pictures, I have been received with nothing but friendly faces and kindness. So my angels this year are the kind and increasingly familiar faces of the people of Blyth and Brussels and area who have taught me that this is the kind of place where nobody could ever feel alone. — Heather Crawford just a warm bed and a hot but also an ear to listen to stories of first-day jitters all of the comforts of I that that wrong, other was house in 1980 took him away from home during the week. As a result, I often found the day-to-day routine of running a household, a business and being a mother to two, then three, then four children a bit of a handful. Had it not been for a neighbouring couple there were times when I’m not sure what I would have done. From digging my car out, to providing a safe haven for my children, to spoiling my pooch they were always there.
