couldn't remember where Mr.

getting nowhere.
We called into this place and a
woman came out and said she knew
where he lived but it was hard to
explain.
“I’ll just take you there,” she said
and got in her car. We followed and
found the place. Now I call that

case it was three or four.
Now these men had a good visit
(not knowing it would be their last
as they have since both passed
away), all because of the kindness
of a woman whom I had never seen
before, Debbie Bauer.

snow fall the night before so when
the streets were plowed that
morning there was a pile of snow
left in the driveway. My husband,
who had already left for work,
called me to say that when I was
leaving for work, not to stop when I
started to go out the driveway or I
would surely be stuck. When I went
out to see - I knew the way my luck
had been that I had better get the
shovel.
I no more than started to dig when
I heard a tractor coming down the

a frightening
experience,

When I was first offered a job at
The Citizen I was excited to start
something new, something I had
been looking forward to through
four years of university; a job as a
reporter.
Reality quickly set in however
when I realized that I would be
starting out without a home, friends
or family close by.
I learned quickly that this new
village was not the kind of place
that would leave a girl stranded or in
want of anything.

Every shop I went into offered me
a welcoming smile and patience
while I navigated my way through
small-town life.
After having called what
sometimes feels like every
household in town asking questions,
and taking pictures, I have been
received with nothing but friendly
faces and kindness.
So my angels this year are the
kind and increasingly familiar faces
of the people of Blyth and Brussels
and area who have taught me that
this is the kind of place where
nobody could ever feel alone.
