Well the songs of old seem to cover
the subject once again. “Let it snow,
let it snow, let it snow ... was the
familiar refrain of the past week. And
yes it moved right into “...a winter
wonderland”.
For those of us who really do like
this season of winter, it has been a
great week! Beautiful clear nights
with lots of white stuff floating
about, making some very pretty
pictures for the memory file were to
be enjoyed here. Each day brought a
new miracle to see. After spending
time in Huron County it comes as no
surprise to our residents and friends
where the pictures on the Christmas
cards come from. Just taking the
moment to really see the'scene
showed us various places of ice
sparkling like many diamonds on the
trees and fields or the fence comers
drifted artistically with unique shapes
of pristine snow and of course the
lights on the porches decked with
ribbons and greens are there to treat
us anytime we care to really see
where we live.
Besides beautiful scenery this
week I also truly appreciated a long
time custom of our village - clear,
clean streets. This is a long-time perk
that Brussels has enjoyed for many,
many years and if I can think of one
of the anxieties of the municipal
amalgamation several years ago it
was the worry that our streets would
be just like all the other surrounding
snowbelt towns. So thank you to the
Huron East snow manipulators. You
learned your lessons well and
continue to do them with wonderful
regularity with each significant
snowfall.
On Monday morning after working
my night shift and knowing how
much snow had been moved off the
car I came into our village about 6:30
a.m. to view the municipal tractor
driving up a very naked Turnberry
Street. In my mind the scene said
what a great big, beautifully clear and
clean street we have here and I’m
sure he enjoyed the view as much, no
probably more, than I did.
So on behalf of us, thank you to the
Huron East fellas who set their
clocks before most folks are out of
their deepest sleep. To the other
employees and bosses thank you for
letting them flex time to do their job
so well.
After visiting in other places of
snow this December I really
appreciate not getting stuck finding a
parking spot, and for letting the
strollers, sleighs and chairs work as
they can. Thank you for not having to
do the high jump to find the street
from the car. It is a real pleasure to
walk and drive the main street
cleared of all the excess snow.
Greetings and salutations to each
of your workers of the night.
The concerts and choirs continued
this week in their celebration of
peace, joy, hope and love. Thank you
for your hard work and commitment
to celebrate our freedom of faith and
expression and a real pleasure for the
listeners once again.
One of the traditions of our family
is that Christmas morning gifts come
in a sack. This started when my boys
were bom as a way to save the trees
and of course my sanity as the gifts
requested did not come in nice
shapes to wrap. So one of my
favourite tasks in the next few days is
to fill the various sizes of bags with
the many shapes of gifts that have
been acquired for the 17 people who
will gather here to share food and
love.
To further protect my sanity as the
numbers at Christmas grew, men’s
red and green ties from former lives
show each name loud and clear. So
my moment of Christmas pending is
standing surveying the blessings to
be shared with the loves of my life
and placing the chosen articles in the
correct bag.
“O what fun ...”
Blessed Christmas to you and
yours from our clan. Enjoy this time
and share the love!
Merry Christmas, Betty G.W.
