At the Branch
Legion
By Jo-Ann McDonald
The Brussels Legion Branch had
its colours in place for the visitation
and funeral for Comrade Archie
Henderson held last week. Comrade
Henderson was a 60-year member
of Branch 218.
There were over 50 out to enjoy
the roast beef dinner on Friday
night. This week is meat loaf and
scalloped potatoes.
The Branch was busy hosting
Zone team darts. Nearly 50 players
attended. The team of Ron Schmidt,
Sara and Anita Little and John
Harrison captured second place
while Ken and Linda Bird, Andy
Adams and Andy Overholt tied for
third place. Both teams advance to
District play.
The Saturday afternoon euchre
saw nine tables at play. Close scores
of 76, 75 and 74 won the top prizes
of the day. Winners were: Clarence
Hoy and Norine Parks, Harry and
Grace Smith and Bush Whittard and
Kaye Smith.
There was a tie for low score with
45 points going to Ethel Walker,
Lorna Ellis, Vera Lindner and Vera
Ahrens. The lucky lone hand
winners were Jo-Ann McDonald
and Ken Engel.
There was a good turnout for the
meat draws held Saturday around 5
p.m. Drop and win supper.
The last early bird draw winner
was Bush Whittard. Dues are now
$45 for those who didn’t get in
before the end of November.
Dues are due to be paid by Dec.
31 for 2006. Anyone interested in
joining the Legion can do so by
contacting Membership Chairman
John Harrison.
