Obituaries LEONA HICKEY Leona (Valad) Hickey passed away suddenly at Clinton Public Hospital on Monday, Nov. 28, 2005. She was the beloved wife of 58 years of the late Joseph Hickey. She was the dear mother of Marian and Frank Hallahan of Blyth, Bob and Brenda Hickey, Innisfil, Connie and Paul Black, RR7, Lucknow, Jim and Teresa Hickey of RR3, Auburn, John and Judy Hickey of RR6, Goderich, Joanne Riehl of Seaforth, George and Sylke Hickey of RR4, Goderich, Phyllis and Rob Hanson of Thorndale and Michael and Jo Hickey of London. Mrs. Hickey was the loving and devoted grandmother to 27 grandchildren and 18 great­ grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister and brothers, Marjorie Leddy and Leo Hauck of Barrie, Mervin Valad of Chepstow, Ken and Marg Valad of Barrie, John Valad of Walkerton. She will be remembered by her brother-in-law Frances Parker of Walkerton, sisters-in-law Mary Head of Florida, Cecilia Hickey of PEL Marguerite White of Nova Scotia and Bernard Hickey of Alberta. Mrs. Hickey was predeceased by sisters Gladys, Jean, Bernice and Irene. Friends were received at the McCallum and Palla Funeral Home in Goderich, Wednesday, Nov. 30 from 3-5 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Goderich, Thursday, at 11 a.m. Interment was in St. Augustine Cemetery. Pallbearers were Darryl Hallahan, Ryan Hickey, Dennis Black, Evan Hickey, Mark Hickey, Joel Phelan. Flowerbearers were Shawn Hanson, Kyle and Dylan Hickey. Offertory were Jessica Hanson, Brea Hickey, Crystal Dalton, Amanda Hickey, Sheri Veley, Jeremy Phelan, Drew Black, Bob Hickey Jr. Readers were Denise Black-McNee and Kevin Hallahan. Prayers were offered by Justin Phelan, Jason Phelan, Diane Hallahan and Erin Thomson. Bradley Hickey was the organist. Steve Hallahan thanked everyone on behalf of the Hickey family. Guest soloist, Jim Robertson sang Peace in the Valley. Donations to the Blyth Fire Department or the charity of one’s choice will be gratefully acknowledged by the family. Mrs. Hickey was a charter member of the Catholic Women’s League and a life-long member of St. Augustine Church. She will always be remembered as a generous and loving woman who always made room for one more and made sure no one ever went hungry. We will miss her deeply but know she will always be with us. LLOYD WHEELER Lloyd Stanley Wheeler of Brussels passed away at Huronlea Home for the Aged on Friday, Nov. 25, 2005. Bom in Grey Twp. on Oct. 9, 1918, Lloyd was in his 88th year. He was the beloved husband of Helen (McCutcheon) Wheeler. Lloyd was the dear father of Douglas Wheeler and wife Cathie of Waterloo, Jim Wheeler and wife Diane of Guelph and Gerry Wheeler and wife Brenda of Brussels. He was the dear brother of Glenn and wife Lois of London and dear brother-in-law of Clarence McCutcheon and his wife Marie of Brussels. Lloyd was also loved by his eight grandchildren,’ Trevor and his wife Julie, Erica and her husband Chad, Jenn, Mike, Phil, Brooklyn, Brent and Brianne, and by his several nieces and nephews. At Lloyd’s request his remains were donated for research. Friends were received by the family one hour prior to the Celebration of the Life of Lloyd at Brussels United Church on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Cathrine Campbell officiating. At the beginning of the service, Lloyd’s grandchildren brought forward to the front of the church treasures of Grandpa Wheeler that they each will remember him by. Remembrances of Lloyd were given by Lloyd’s son Jim and also by his granddaughters Brook and Jennifer through letters which were read by granddaughter Erica. The choir sang A Closer Walk With Thee as a tribute. Hymns for the service were Unto the Hills, The Lord is My Shepherd and What a Friend We have in Jesus. Bom in Wingham on June 5, 1933, Lome was in his 73rd year. Lome was the beloved husband of Jane and dear father of Juanita Draper of Grand Bend, Kevin Draper of London, Rob Willie and his wife Jen of Listowel, Paul Willie and his wife Miranda of Belgrave, Lori Vader and her husband Mike of Brussels, George Coates and his wife Linda of London and Brad Coates and his wife Marcia of Vanastra. Lome was also loved by his 19 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, his sister Ellen McPherson and her husband Lloyd of Teeswater and his cousin Shirley Langridge and her husband Dennis of Wingham. He was predeceased by his step­ daughter Janice Heard and grandson Gavin John: Friends were received by the family from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home, where the funeral was conducted Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Tom Wilson officiating. Remembrances of Lome were given by his daughter Juanita. Scriptures were read by Lori Vader and Janine Knight. Hymns for the service were Amazing Grace, the Old Rugged Cross, and In the Garden. Interment will be in Brussels Cemetery. Carrying floral tributes were Jonathon Perrie-Willie, Janine Knight and Nicholas Subject. Acting as pallbearers were Murray McCall, Lome Brown, Harold Bridge, John Pipe, Bruce Hamilton and Wayne Dolmage. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Children’s Wish Foundation. On-line condolences may be made at www.schimanskifamilyfuneralhome.com SANDER “SANDY” VAN DORP Mr. Sandy van Dorp of RR4, Clinton passed away suddenly, to be with his Lord and Saviour, as a result of a motor vehicle accident on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005. He was in his 68th year. He was the beloved husband of Willy (nee Schipper). He was the loving father of Cathy and Peter van den Berg of Gorrie, Andy and Susan of Seaforth, John and Karen of Clinton, Janice of Clinton, Jack and Heather of Londesborough, Teresa and Tom Hesse of Brandon, Florida and Peter of Guelph. He was the cherished grandpa of 18 grandchildren. Mr. van Dorp was the dear brother and brother-in-law of Ria van Dorp of Holland, Truus and Leen Hassefras of Brampton, Henk and Leni van Dorp of Woodstock, Mary van Dorp of Seaforth, and Cor and Alice van Dorp of Smithville. He will also be missed by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. van Dorp will be fondly remembered by the Schipper family. His parents, sister Ina van Dorp, and three brothers Jan, Jake and Tony predeceased him. Funeral arrangements were incomplete at press time.
