PEOPLE AROUND
WALTON
By Jo-Ann
McDonald

Our condolences to family and
friends of Bill McCall, who passed
away last week. Services were held
from Clinton and the community’s
deepest sympathies are extended to
all.
Condolences are extended to Jane
Draper and family on the sudden
passing of Lome Draper.
Many will recall that Lome drove
for McCall transport for many years
and had many Walton friends.
The Walton Hall board had the
pleasure of serving a meal to more
than 50 men attending a P and H
growers meeting held on Thursday.
They enjoyed a roast beef dinner
after the morning’s presentations.
Thanks to Judy Lee, Audrey
Hackwell, Leona McDonald, Mary
Bernard and Rick McDonald.
We are thankful that Darryl
Houston and friends were not hurt
when poor road conditions
contributed to an unfortunate crash.
We are also thankful that Pat
Melady and his vanload of hockey
players and parents were also not
seriously hurt that same night.
The Sawmill Road farm
machinery parade was an absolutely
wonderful event with lots of entries.
There were lights, music and
plenty of spectators to watch this
procession of all kinds of machinery
and tractors. .
The Walton Little School held a
successful dinner and auction at the
BMG Community Centre on
Saturday night.
Work is progressing on the
Campbell property beside the
Walton Inn.
The walls have been knocked
down, and cement block sections are
in place waiting for the next step.
The Walton Country Christmas
was cancelled due to the weather on
Friday evening.
It has been rescheduled for
Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Hall.
Watch out this week. The deer
hunters are out again.
A few more deer will hopefully be
thinned out.
Celebrating birthdays to start
December were Daniel Fritz, Jim
Fritz, Scott Godkin, Malinda
Johnston, Paul McCallum, Mary
Bernard, Greg Bowers, Ron Godkin
and Devin Bachert.

In memory
Rose and Bob Robinson with Shannon McGavin, right, attended the Walton Little School
dinner, auction and dance Saturday night where a special tribute was done for their grandson
Jack Matthew Robinson, son of Brent and Susan, brother of Mark, Josh and Ben. Jack who
had been a student of WLS, had tragically passed away last year. He was described as a “go-
getter and if you knew him you loved him. Riding on tractors was one of his favourite things.”
A little tractor was dedicated in his memory. (Vicky Bremnerphoto)
Carol sing opens Duff’s service
On the second Sunday of Advent
worshippers were greeted by Pearl
McCallum and Joan Tuchlinsky to
Duff’s United.
The Christmas carol singing prior
to the service was led by Gloria
Wilbee and Glenda Morrison.
The scripture reader was Dianne
McCallum.
Rev. Joan’s reflection was entitled
Comfort, Comfort Your People. She
related a personal story on the topic
of violence against women. She
reported that Dec. 6 is the date of the
massacre of 14 women at the
Polytech Institute in Montreal, by a
man who hated women.
It was a reflection of the violence
against women and children in this
world. Even in our small
community, violence against women
is there but is not talked about, she
said.
Advent is a time of waiting for
God’s presence to arrive to bring a
just and peaceful world to all.
We all yearn for God’s love to
change things, but what can we do to
change things?
We can speak out against violence
and change the code of silence, be
proactive and move out of our
comfort zone, to comfort, comfort
your people.
The Minute for Mission was a
story from Japan from the Gifts of
Grace.
The Mission and Services
fund also supports Christian
peacemaker teams and missionary
support.
The offering was collected by
Monique and Teresa Baan. They
also collected white gifts.
Christmas carols are sung 15
minutes prior to the service every
Sunday.
Communion will be Dec. 18 and
the Christmas Eve service is at 7:30
p.m. and on Christmas day at 9:30
a.m.
