The Sunday school children County measures performance By Bonnie Gropp Citizen editor How to get the good news out about the county’s performance measurement was brought to the table at Huron County council’s Nov. 29 meeting. Chief administrative officer Larry Adams explained that the county is required to report certain performance measurements to the province under the Municipal Act. Councillor Deb Shewfelt of Goderich said he felt that the ratepayers should be made aware of the information in the report. Howick councillor Rosemary Rognvaldson agreed, noting that she was impressed that the operating costs for garbage disposal per household is $1.52. “I think people should know this.” Adams said that the information will be published on the website. However, as not everyone has internet access, the discussion then went to whether print advertising would be the way to go, or as a submission with the municipal tax billing. Treasurer Dave Carey was authorized to investigate the costs involved. For Huron, 20 of the 49 performance measurements were applicable. “In order to comply with the province’s mandate to report 2004 fiscal year performance measurements, county staff has made reasonable assumptions using the information available from the province,” council was informed. Some of the information was: operating costs for library services per person, $34.72; operating costs for library per use, $5.54; library uses per person, 6.273; operating costs for administration as a percentage of total municipal operating costs, four per cent; operating costs for paved roads per lane kilometre. $158.44; operating costs for winter maintenance of roadway per lane kilometre, $969.49; percentage of paved lanes kilometre where condition is rated good, 100 per cent; weighted number of days when a boil water advisory issued by the Ministry of ON $4.00 THURSDAYS Drop into either of our offices any Thursday with your word classified (maximum 20 words) and pay only $4.00 + GST (paid in advance).
