Tyke Ils face off against Milverton at home
It was a busy weekend for the
Blyth Tyke II hockey team as they
played on Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday they faced Milverton on
home ice. Milverton played a good
game considering they were five and
six-year-olds matched up
against Blyth’s six and seven-year-
olds.
Milverton’s lone goal was scored
by Michael Runstedler, assisted by
Jesse Tomiuk and Abbie Jutzi.
Scoring for Blyth were Hunter
Dale with seven, Drew Bromley
with two, Amy Boyce with four and
Justin Rodger with one.
Scoring their first-time hockey
career goal were Samantha Kerr and
Saugeen Maitland in playdowns
Cody Treble.
Giving the goalscorer’s assistance
were Bromley with three, Chad
Treble with three, Gavin Workman
with two, Kerr, Cody Treble,
Morgan Howson and Dale.
Playing an excellent game in net
was Brendan Howson.
Sunday’s game was a little tougher
match-up as the Seaforth team is all
seven-year-olds. However, Blyth’s
little Bulldogs never quit fighting for
the puck and played their best game
of the season so far.
After a few opportunities to score
Dale finally put one in the net
unassisted.
Stopping shot after shot for Blyth
was Rodger with a little help from
the team in front of him.
The Saugeen Maitland AA Midget
girls hockey team played the second
game of playdowns to see who will
represent the Western Area in the
Ontario winter Games to be held
next March in Barrie.
The game was played in Howick
on Monday, Nov. 28 against the
Stratford Aces.
The hard-fought battle ended in a
0-0 tie.
The Lightning outshot the
opponents 23-8 but was unable to
get one by the Stratford goalie.
Syd Brown earned the shutout for
Saugeen Maitland.
Saugeen Maitland hosted St.
Thomas on Thursday, Dec. I in
Howick, and won 5-1.
The first goal was scored just 16
seconds into the game by Courtney
Sutherland. Eighteen seconds later,
Kendall Whitfield scored after
receiving the pass from Joelle Reid
and Allison Quennell. The third
goal, by Tara O’Reilly, was assisted
by Sutherland and Janette Hammell.
Stacey Scholten scored in the
second period, on a pass coming
from the sticks of Hammell and
Laurie Sinclair. The fifth Saugeen
goal was by Joelle Reid, unassisted.
