highlight.

evening a new member Aliscia
MacLeod was initiated. Welcome to
Br. 420 Aliscia.
There are still two new members
to be initiated, hopefully as early as
possible in the new year.

Grade 8 students at Blyth Public School participated in a
workshop about art that reflects war such as memorials
and monuments on Tuesday, Nov. 29. The workshop,
sponsored by the Foundation for Enriched Learning gave
students the opportunity to sketch, then later build, their
Own monument. (Heather Crawford photo)
Gr. 8s study war monuments
How art influences our everyday
lives was one of the many lessons
learned during an all-day workshop
that Grade 7/8 students at Blyth
Public School attended Tuesday,
Nov. 29.
Stratford artist Wendy O’Brien
helped students design their own
war monuments.
The workshop, funded by the
Foundation for Enriched Education
and the Avon Maitland District
School Board, introduced students
to the work of Walter Seymour
Allward, a sculptor hired by
the Government of Canada to create
a war monument in Ottawa.
An exhibit of All ward’s work was
presented at the Art Gallery in
Stratford however the workshop
was brought to the students who
did not get a chance to see the
exhibit.
The students’ work was based on
the battle at Vimy Ridge during the
First World War. Most of the
morning was spent drawing
sketches and graphs before
