Prior to the service, a Christmas carol hymn-sing was held with Gloria Wilbee and Glenda Morrison. This will be held every Sunday prior to the service at 9:15 a.m. The call to worship and advent wreath lighting and prayer was done by Jacob. Mackenzie and Teagan McGavin. A special recognition service for Gloria Wilbee for obtaining her lay worship leader licence was led by Rev. Joan Tuchlinsky. (Heather Crawford photo) Huron East council briefs Grey prepares to celebrate Canada Day will come a little late next year for residents in Grey Twp. but the celebrating will start early. Due to the 150th anniversary celebration planned for Jul. 7, 8 and 9, Huron East council decided at the Nov. 15 meeting to move the Canada Day fireworks to Jul. 9. The fireworks will held in the Grey ward as the finale of the celebrations.*** Council is looking into getting a bit more comfortable at council meetings. Staff has been authorized to call for proposals to replace the 14 chairs in council. Eight cloth chairs presently in use were purchased in Grey in 1994. A suggestion was made to put 14 new chairs in and the eight Grey chairs could be used by the department heads attending council and two by the press. A supplier has been contacted stating that the replacement chairs are scheduled for a significant price increase. Orders placed before Dec. 10 will be honoured at 2005 prices. This item was not budgeted for 2005 and could be considered as a 2006 budget item. presented by Marie McGavin. During the time for the young at heart a short skit was presented by Ryan Baan as narrator and Joelle and Melissa Glanville as the two lost sheep. The message - that nothing is found that is not looked for - was revealed in the story. The anthem by the choir was entitled The Present. The scripture was read by Bethany Black. A white gift drama entitled What Are You Looking For, was presented by Laura and Bethany Black. The Minute for Mission explained how the mission and service fund connects people all around the world. The story was told of a couple who *** Accounts payable in the amount of $409,336.32 was approved. Councillors Alvin McLellan, Larry McGrath and Sharon McClure declared a conflict of interest and refrained from any discussion.*** An official motion from council was requested by Huron East fire chief Marty Bedard to authorize the Huron East Fire Department to leave the limits of the municipality. Out-of-county coverage is currently listed in the Huron County Mutual Aid Plan to which Huron East adheres. However, Bedard along with North Perth fire chief Ed Smith, felt an official motion should be passed by both municipalities. The motion was passed at Huron East as well as North Perth.*** Ensuring that the public is informed that a global flu pandemic is overdue and ensuring protection for the people of the community in such a situation was the basis of a resolution from the Twp. of Terrace Bay signed by council. The resolution requested the Minister of Community Safety and work in Jamaica. They are helpirtg the people become self sufficient by clearing land to produce acreage for growing vegetables and fruit trees. Rev. Joan also related other stories of different projects being carried out by the mission and service fund. The presentation of the offering was by Ron McCallum and Howard Hackwell. Abby McGavin read the dedication and prayer. Lisa Huether, Nicole Stevenson, Marie McGavin, Ryan, Adam and Emma Baan and Laura and Bethany Black were thanked for decorating the church for the upcoming season. Jim had visited his father in Parry Sound last week in hospital and we extend our deepest sympathy to him and Patty at this time. Off to attend Grey Cup in Vancouver on the weekend were Rick McDonald, Jason Konarski and Adam Zaros. They joined up with Neil McDonald and friends and had a great time and a tiring weekend. No one’s favourite team was playing, but so what? It’s Grey Cup. The bad weather cancelled many things on Thursday and Friday. The private memorial service for Isabel Riehl was held Monday instead of Friday. As school was cancelled as weL there was an extra couple of days holidays for the kids and a long weekend for me from driving the bus. LeeAnn Konarski hosted a lovely dinner party for the five women who took three days last September to Correctional Services to ensure that providers and the public are informed about the pandemic and how to help protect themselves against it and that the Ministry identify and implement a system for the provision of critical medical supplies and establish reliable and secure purchasing, storage and distribution systems.*♦* One of the area’s favourite winter activities will get some special attention from Nov. 21-27. Council proclaimed these days, “Get ready for Snowmobiling Week.’ The intention is to recognize “the social, recreational, economic and healthy lifestyle benefits that organized snowmobiling provides to this community and its residents each winter.”*** An agreement to transfe the federal gas tax revenues to the municipalities was proposed to council from the Association of Municipalities. Council decided to enter into the agreement, to prepare a by-law to authorize the agreement and allow the mayor and clerk to be authorized to sign the necessary documents. Christmas meeting is Dec. 7. The guest speaker is Michelle Hansen from the Women's Shelter in Goderich. Abby McGavin is collecting winter coats for the homeless. White gifts will be collected again this coming Sunday. An Advent family brunch was held following church with over 30 enjoying the meal served up by the fundraising committee. Thanks to committee members Dianne McCallum, Judy Lee, Marie McGavin, Glenda Morrison and helpers Karen Hoegy, Shelley and Abby McGavin. The supper committee met to discuss the annual turkey supper. paint her home before moving in. She wined and dined Brenda Konarski, Mary Bernard, Judy Lee, and Kelly and Jo-Ann McDonald, who painted all day so everything would be ready for the move. It was a lovely evening enjoyed by all. Congratulations to Gord and Irma Pryce who celebrated 40 years of wedded bliss on the weekend. They along with their children Kathy and Ron hosted a lovely party for family and friends.
