Agriculture Brussels Livestock report Fed steers sells on strong, active trade Total receipts for Brussels Livestock for the week ending Nov. 25 were 4,943 head of cattle, 399 lambs and goats. On Tuesday the fed steers and heifers sold on a strong active trade. Choice steers and heifers sold $96 to $100 with sales to $115. Second-cut steers and heifers sold $92 to $96. The cows traded under pressure. On Thursday the veal sold on a strong active trade with prices up $7 to $10 over last week’s. The lambs sold on a strong demand with prices $5 to $10 higher. On Friday the calves traded on a steady market while the yearlings sold $1 to $2 higher. There were 805 steers on offer. Tyler Murray, Lucknow, consigned one grey steer weighing 1,395 lbs. which sold for $115. Twenty-two steers consigned by Jim Howatt, Londesborough, averaged 1,505 lbs. which sold for an average price of $100.77 with his top black steer weighing 1,510 lbs. selling for $106.25. Art Bos, Blyth, consigned one steer weighing 1,140 lbs. which sold for $103.75. Twelve steers con­ signed by Willard Brubacher, Wallenstein, averaged 1,461 lbs. which sold for an average price of $102.59 with his top six blonde steers averaging 1,433 lbs. selling ' for $103. Ron and Brian Tulluch, Meaford, consigned nine limousin steers averaging 1,367 lbs. which sold for $105. Their overall offering of twenty-four steers averaged 1,326 lbs. selling for an average price of $101.25. Ten red steers consigned by Aden Brubacher, Listowel, averaged 1,446 lbs. selling for an average price of $101.06 with sales to $103.85. Jim Wilson, Lucknow, con­ signed two limousin steers averag­ ing 1,350 lbs. which sold for $104.75. his overall offering of five steers averaged 1,457 lbs. selling for an average price of $100.08. Eighteen steers consigned by Lloyd Frey, Mount Forest, averaged 1,396 lbs. selling for an average price of $98.37 with his top two limousin steers averaging 1,368 lbs. selling for $ 102.75. One limousin steer con­ signed by Doug Shieli, Wingham, weighed 1,420 lbs. which sold to Dominion Meat Packers for $102.50. His overall offering of sev­ enteen steers averaged 1,513 lbs. selling for an average price of $97.69. Gord Hern, Granton, consigned one gold steer weighing 1,430 lbs. which sold for $104.75. His overall offering of thirty-eight steers aver­ aged 1,534 lbs. selling for an aver­ age price of $96.99. There were 313 heifers on offer. Lewington Farms, Brussels, con­ signed three limousin heifers aver­ aging 1,245 lbs. which sold to Norwich Packers for $106.50. Their overall offering of eight heifers averaged 1,179 lbs. selling for an average price of $104.27. Ten heifers consigned by George Horst, Paisley, averaged 1,252 lbs. selling for an average price of $95.76 with his top gold heifer weighing 1,330 lbs. selling for $105.25. Jeff Lewington, Brussels, con­ signed two limousin heifers averag­ ing 1,223 lbs. which sold for $105.25. Five heifers consigned by David Bowles, Brussels, averaged 1,315 lbs. selling for an average price of $102.01 with his top three limousin heifers averaging 1,337 lbs. selling to Norwich Packers for $104. Clarence Dekens, Clinton, consigned one gold heifer weighing 1,390 lbs. which sold for $103. His overall offering of four heifers aver­ aged 1,375 lbs. selling for an aver­ age price of $100.73. Ten heifers consigned by Aaron B. Sherk, Wellesley, averaged 1,313 lbs. sell­ ing for an average price of $100.56 with his top four blonde heifers averaging 1,345 lbs. selling for $102. Their overall consignment of twenty-eight heifers averaged 1,254 lbs. selling for an average price of of $99.86. Forty-one heifers consigned by John Weatherall, Cargill, averaged 1,186 lbs. selling for an average price of $99.82 with his top eleven limousin heifers averaging 1,128 lbs. selling to Norwich Packers for $104. The OFA executive committee is comprised of incumbents Terry Otto, Bette Jean Crews, Harry Brander and newcomer Don McCabe. Ralph Brodie, Robert Emerson, Herb Hart, Paul Wettlaufer, and Debra Pretty-Straathoff are on the science and technology commit­ tee.
