The Lightning had great goaltending from Cassy Stafford who earned the shutout. The first goal was scored by Sutherland as she deeked the goalie after receiving the pass from Kassie Avery. Dale passed the puck to Joelle Reid who made it 2-0, then Hammell put one in the top shelf on one between the pipes, with an assist from Ryan Nesbitt. Wallace managed a goal late in the third, but not before Blyth’s Atoms added two more to their tally. Van Wyk handed off to Wood for goal number four, then those two combined to set up the play for Weber to get his second of the game. Heidi Raynard was solid between the pipes for Blyth. a pass from Jenny Bults. The Lightning played a strong third period as they scored two more goals. Stacey Scholten scored on a pass from Bults and Burns, then Reid made a great rush down the ice to get a shot away and linemate Allison Quennell picked up the rebound to finish out the scoring. In the first game, Blyth came up against the hosting Elma Logan squad in a fight to the finish. The opposition got on the board first, but Curtis Raynard answered back for Blyth shortly after to tie it. Then with just over a minute before the the first-period buzzer Raynard slapped in another to give Blyth the lead going into the second period.
