Local Madill students learning co-operatively By Amanda Hiusser 1 am gaining at my placement will be useful in college and also later on once I enter the workforce. I feel very fortunate that I got the opportunity to work and learn in such a good placement and I am looking forward to continuing it. I enjoy my co-op placement very much and have found it a very useful learning experience. 1 would recommend the co-op program to any student. age. So far it has been great. I am beginning to grasp the placement of the tools and equipment in the shop and their names. I get along with my co-workers very well, including the owner Don McNeil. I have gained much more knowledge about bodywork, welding, sandblasting and restorations of all sorts. I have enjoyed every bit of work I have completed and observed so far this semester. I hope to learn as much as I can about this career before 1 decide what to do after I graduate from high school. I’m a 17-year-old attending F.E. Madill Secondary School in Wingham. I’m enrolled in the co-op program and my placement is at the Cafe in Wroxeter and Two Grumpy Old Men in Brussels. I “float” back and forth between the two. My supervisor is Paula Alton at the Cafe and Brad Carther at Two Grumpy Old Men. Actually they’re not all that grumpy. My work placement is for Hotel and Restaurant Management. I am using my placement towards getting my chef papers. I should be signing up soon as a OYAP student (Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program.) My duties are cooking, waitressing, answering the phone, taking orders, running the till and putting in orders for fresh produce. I enjoy working with my fellow employees and with the customers. Need a way to gain great workplace experience before entering into the workforce? The co op program is a great way to go. I am a student at F.E. Madill Secondary School in Wingham, Ontario, in the co-op program. My co-op placement is at Mechanical Design Services in Brussels. Mechanical Design Services is a business where they do jobs designing parts and dies for many different companies. During my time there I have learned how to use computer software to draw and design many different parts drawings. I work with both Jim Lee and Charles Corbett and they have done very well teaching me many of the basic skills that is needed for designing and engineering. After high school I have plans to go on to college and become an engineer. I think that the experience By Chris Illman I attend F.E. Madill Secondary School in Wingham. I am currently in Grade 12 and enrolled in a two- credit co-op course. My teacher is Mrs. Kellington and she has helped me out quite a bit by preparing me to go into the workforce. My co-op placement is McNeil’s Auto Body just on the west end of Brussels.
