Whether or not there will be
enough aggregate to meet future
demand is the basis of a study
conducted by the department of
planning and development for the
County of Huron.
Brian Treble and Claire Dodds of
the department, presented some
statistics to Huron East council at
the Nov. 15 meeting that indicated
Huron East has approximately 10
per cent of the aggregate resource in
the county.
The plan is to find the primary
and secondary sources of aggregate
and extract it.
Extraction will not take place in
urban and non-agricultural land
uses, cemeteries, landfills,
provincially significant wetlands,
elementary, secondary and private
schools and municipal wellhead
capture zones.
According to the presentation, the
next step is for Huron County
council to endorse and circulate a
report, draft policies and map each
local municipality for
implementation.
The purpose of the aggregate
resource strategy is to identify the
mineral aggregate resource in
Huron County and to assess areas
with aggregate resources that
should be protected.
