PEOPLE AROUND AUBURN By Debbie Bauer Coll 529-7820 The Auburn Horticultural Society will meet Monday, Nov. 28 at the Community Hall at 7:30 p.m. Florist Chris Moore will be demonstrating decorating for Christmas. There is no charge at the door. Auburn Knox United Church Rev. Up and over Blyth student Kayla Black gets in this game at the central Huron schools regional tournament in Clinton last Thursday. Finishing first for the girls was Clinton school while Hullett Central Public School’s team finished second in both the boys and girls contest. Blyth’s boys captured first. (News Record photo) Pat Cook and husband Bob hosted an open house for their Londesborough and Auburn friends at their home in Londesborough. The manse was beautifully decorated for the Christmas season and treats were served by their grandchildren. That is what small communities are all about folks. The Auburn UCW is hosting a dessert meeting Monday, Nov. 28 at 1 p.m. Auburn community sends birthday wishes to Gerrie Bakker on her 95th birthday. Her family is hosting a come and go tea Saturday, Nov. 26 from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. at the Wingham Golf and Curling Club. Mrs. Bakker is mother to locals Teade (Barb) and Marinus (Margaret) Bakker both of Auburn area as well as Angie Robinson of Wingham and Eefje Mac Lean of Uxbridge. Mrs. Bakker, with the help of her children, ran the family farm with little in the way of language skills, or driving ability etc. after the untimely passing of her husband, Rimmer Bakker, just one year after the family immigrated from Holland. There were refreshments served after church at Knox on Sunday and everyone enjoyed the treats and the chance to catch up on visiting. Walkerburn Club donates to Red Cross, Salvation Army The Walkerburn Club met on a snowy Thursday, Nov. 17 at the home of Ethel Ball. Deanna Snell opened the meeting with a reading, Under the Stairs, followed by The Lord's Prayer. In the absence of both the secretary and assistant secretary, Pat Hunking read the minutes of the last meeting. Roll call was a memory of one's childhood home. Bernice Norman gave the treasurer’s report. A donation will be made to the Canadian Red Cross and the Salvation Army. A collection of clothing, food and money was made to the Christmas Bureau. A discussion was held on birthday and Christmas gifts for residents of Restview Retirement Home, and decisions were made regarding gifts for the residents without families. The members will be going to Restview on Dec. 1, to sing Christmas carols. Each member is asked to take a few cookies for a treat after carol singing. The seventh quilt for breast cancer was displayed and pictures taken of members with the quilt. Ila Cunningham and Vera Penfound are to each select material and mark blocks etc., for two quilts for future breast cancer sales and Vera is to have hers available by Dec. 1, so members can get started on them. The group has been having problems setting dates for the Communion will be celebrated next Sunday and the new hymn books will be dedicated. Many from the Auburn community were at the Santa Claus parade in Goderich. It was a great night weather wise and a great parade to boot. Congratulations to Anita and Scott Allen on the arrival of precious Olivia Grace weighing in al 7 pounds, 11 ounces. Grandparents Gordon and Bernice Gross are tickled pink on the arrival of their not be calling members to remind them of meetings.
