The family of Mary Pennington gathered at the Walton Hall on Saturday evening to celebrate Christmas a little early. The Walton Hall board catered to the gathering of 20 family members. The deer hunt might be over and there are less but there are still plenty running the roads. Unfortunately Steve Knight, Rick McDonald and Helen Dobson all had run-ins with the four-legged creatures. An information night for the possibility of forming a seniors group was held at Walton Hall. A group of 10 gathered to discuss if there was interest enough to form. A follow-up meeting will be held Dec. 5 with a representative of seniors Congratulations to Marie Coutts on becoming a great-grandmother to a precious little girl named Kyra. Proud parents are Dwayne and Vicki Leddy. Congratulations also go to Grandpa and Grandma Chris and Judy Lee on the birth of their second grandson. Proud first-time parents are Matt and Cheryl Lee and the newest member of the Lee clan, is Ryder. Pulpit exchange at Duffs Rev. Cathrine Campbell was the guest speaker for the pulpit exchange at Duff’s United Church. The choir provided an anthem and the scripture was read by Laura Black. Rev. Campbell had a wonderful children’s story to tell. The reflection was on Choices and the offering was collected by Dianne McCallum and Barry Hoegy. Rev. Joan Tuchlinsky was guest speaker at Brussels Mennonite Fellowship. The United Church Observer magazine is available free of charge to interested families of the church. Craig hosts WI Women’s Shelter will be collected. The white gift service is Nov. 27. An advent family brunch will be held and food donations to the brunch are being accepted by Betty McCallum. Abby McGavin is collecting winter coats for the homeless and would appreciate all donations by the end of November. There is a great need for men’s winter coats especially. The Walton Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting at the home of Helen Craig. There were eight members in attendance and the topic was suggestions for the article in Home and Country. They also discussed donating cookies for the Walton Hall Community Christmas. Helen served lunch and reminded all about the Christmas meeting Dec. 21 at the Walton Inn. Any interested parties should contact Jeanne Kirkby. Jim Cook travelled to Parry Sound on the weekend to visit with his father who is ill and in hospital. Patty Banks attended a Choice’s Theory Level 2 weekend seminar at the home of John and Sandy Maaskant. It was a seminar on understanding the brain, seeing how and why we make the choices we make and understanding how these choices affect relationships. 'Many Walton residents will remember Isabel (Coutts Huether) Riehl from her Walton-Brussels days. She has been living in Cambridge and passed away on Sunday. A private memorial service will be held later in the week. Our condolences to her son Gerald and family.
