Hate when this happens
Despite a valiant effort from the Blyth Bantam netminder this was a goal off the stick of a
Milverton player. The squads played Friday night in Blyth and the visitors skated home with a
victory. (Vicky Bremner photo)
Peters in goal for OHL all-stars
Blyth native Justin Peters will
field the net for the Ontario Hockey
Leagues’s (OHL) all-star team.
Peters was one of two goalies
named to the all-star team and will
face the best from Russia during the
series.
The two games will take place in
Kitchener on Nov. 24 and in
Peterborough on Nov. 28.
Peters, who is in his fourth season
with the St. Michaels Majors in
Toronto, was ranked number four on
the list of the best North American
goalies by Central Scouting from the
NHL in 2004.
At age four, his parents Jeff and
Janice Peters introduced their son to
the game, allowing him to play for a
beginners hockey team.
His love of hockey continued as
he moved from Blyth Minor Hockey
to the Huron-Perth AAA
Lakers.

The Saugeen Maitland AA
Lightning hosted the Hamilton
Hawks in an exhibition game on
Saturday, Nov. 19 in Ayton.

defeated this year, and is rated as the
second top team in the North Metro

Toronto Aeros. The Hamilton team
is in first pi’ace in the Lakeshore
division, Toronto is first in the
Central Division and Saugeen is in
first place in the West division.

action. providing great
entertainment. Joelle Reid opened
the scoring with a beautiful
backhand shot after receiving a
perfect pass from Allison Quennell.
Kendall Whitfield picked up the
assist. Hamilton responded with a
goal with 0.01 seconds remaining in
the period.
The second goal was scored by
Janette Hammell on a pass from
Courtney Sutherland and Tara
O'Reilly. Hamilton continued to put
pressure on, but great defensive
work and excellent goaltending by
Syd Brown and Cassy Stafford kept
them from adding to the scoreboard
during the second period.
The Lightning took a 3 - 1 lead on
a goal from Whitfield, who received
the pass from Reid and Tara
O’Reilly.
Hamilton was able to sneak one
more in the net in the last five
minutes of the game, but it was not
enough to maintain their undefeated
record.
The Saugeen Maitland girls,
coached by Bill Webber, Mike Kittel
and Joe Chaffe will continue their
regular season schedule next Sunday
in Sarnia.
However, they saw action on
Tuesday night in Milverton against

score of 2-1 on Nov. 16.

the game by Joelle Reid on a pass
