PEOPLE AROUND
WALTON

The birthday bunch gathered at
the Walton Inn on Wednesday
morning to celebrate with birthday
girls, Jeanne Kirkby and Kathleen
Williamson. The cake, provided by
Audrey Hack well was enjoyed by
Mary Humphries, Marjory
Humphries, Marjorie Fraser,
Margery Huether, Helen
Williamson, Marie Coutts and
Audrey, Jeanne and Kathleen*.
Welcome home from Florida
Margery Huether.
Jeanne Kirkby had her family
home to celebrate her birthday. They
did the cooking, brought gifts and
enjoyed visiting. Son Paul and wife
Van and grandchildren Sean and
Melanie were there to pamper
Jeanne.
The hunters had a successful week
of hunting and really great weather.
A group of 14 that included Rick
and Scott McDonald, Jason
Konarski and Devon Blake
managed to get 19 deer.
I understand that all the hunting
groups did well. The gang with
Carmen Bernard, Jason and Matt
Shortreed shot 22 deer. If all groups
did as well, the population of deer
should have been whittled down
somewhat.
The Walton Hall held a successful
roast beef dinner on Sunday night
with over 90 enjoying the fare.
Celebrating birthdays last week
included Jeanne Kirkby, Brian
Pryce, Elva D. Brown, Danielle
Ducharme, Barry Hoegy, Tristan
Rijkhoff, Blaine Marks, Pat Gillis,
Michael Grobbink, and Charlie
Glauser.
Monthly
car seat
checks
begin
New monthly car seat checks will
be starting this month in the central
Huron area.
Huron County Health Unit and
trained community volunteers will
be available to assist parents and
caregivers to buckle children in their
car seat or booster seat as safely as
possible. They will inspect car seats
for recalls and proper installation.
The health unit and Safety First
Huron-Perth conducts car seat
inspection checks and has found that
up to 80 per cent of car seats are not
installed properly or do not meet
standards set by Transport Canada.
Erorrs include vehicle seat belt and
car seat harness straps not tightened
enough, tether strap not used
correctly or locking clip not used
when required.
Parents, grandparents and
caregivers are encouraged to call for
an appointment at one of the monthly
car seat checks, which will be held in
Clinton at the Fire Hall (Central
Huron Fire Department) starting
Tuesday, Nov. 22 from 1:30 to 3:30
p.m. Future dates include Dec. 13,
Jan. 24 and Feb. 14.

No charge

Continued from page 1
There is no charge for dropping
off materials at the site in an effort
to eliminate a major environmental
problem in Ontario.
Program developer and Huron
East treasurer, Brad Knight said the
idea for the program began after
hearing several people inquire about
how to dispose of white plastic wrap
at the plowing match in Listowel.
“The community has always been
very supportive of recycling
programs,” he said. “Huron East
was one of the first municipalities to
have a residential recycling
program.”
Information on the program
should be delivered to residents in
the mail.
