PEOPLE AROUND
AUBURN
On Sunday the 4-H Club invited
the Women’s Institute for a showing
of their crafts at the home of June
Robinson. The 4-H members
graciously met their guests at the
door and showed them the
snowmen, sleds and wreaths they
had created. They had a display of
their journals open for the ladies to
peruse. Each 4-H journal showed in
detail what valued bits of craft
creation lessons they had learned.
There was a work centre set up to
make a take home craft so all the
guests left with their own snowman
pin.
Both groups very much enjoyed
getting to know each other. It was a
great visit for all.
Auburn community sends
sympathy to Jim and Dorothy
Schneider on the sudden passing of
their sister-in-law Marilyn Hallam of
Ripley. The funeral was Thursday,
Nov. IO.
The community sends get-well
wishes to Gordon Gross and a
speedy recovery from his hip
operation.
Rev. Pat Cook’s message last
Sunday was Weaving Life’s
Tapestry. Two minutes silence was
observed to honour the veterans and
a children’s story told of a little girl
who brought peace to her friends.
Jamie Plaetzer did an amazing job as
he read In Flanders Fields.
A memorial service was held at
Knox Presbyterian Church Monday,
Nov. 7 for Horace Elwin Moss -
known to his family and friends as
Chub. Interment was at Hope
Cemetery. His parents were Bess
Cunningham Moss and Elwin Moss.
Sympathy is extended to the family
and friends of Chub.
Knox United Church was the
setting for the baptism of Devon
Robert Curran, son of Chris and
Becky Curran. Congratulations to
all.
Hunters in the Auburn area were
swapping stories of their >yeek in the
bushes. Much the same in any locale
I imagine. Some groups filled their
quota and others were not so lucky.
The talented quilters of the
Auburn area have been busy in the
basement of Knox United Church
preparing a special quilt for the
cancer auction. I hope to bring you
further details as they become
available. Start saving your pennies
folks, this will be a great chance to
add to your family heirlooms and
help those touched by cancer at the
same time. Good work ladies.
Well I have been wandering this
week, and myself, along with Joanne
Upthegrove of Dungannon
wandered right into a lovely little
craft shed at Nile. The display of
talent behind Rustic Roots is
composed and put forth by Vanessa
MacDonald. Vanessa is a senior
student at Goderich District
Collegiate Institute who enjoys
working in her chosen medium.
Twig trees, small decorative painted
sleighs along with many other
beautifully made expressions for the
Christmas season or indeed any
season are just some of what you
will find along with fair prices and a
sweet smile.
Joanne and I were very excited to
discover such a treasure-trove right
in our own backyard. If you are
looking to support a student who has
made great efforts and positive
County discusses bridge repairs
By Bonnie Gropp
Citizen editor
County councillors had some
questions at the Nov. 3 about the
progress of bridge repairs.
Ashfield-Col borne-Wawanosh
councillor Neil Rintoul said he had
heard complaints from people who
had had to slow down at the Zetland
Bridge, but couldn’t see anyone
working.
Engineer Don Pletch stated that
the crew was at work beneath the
bridge and that the work was being
done with the contract stipulations.
He projected that the work would be
choices in expressing herself then
you do need to come to Nile.
Follow the craft signs at Nile on
Saturday or Sunday from l p.m. - 6
p.m. or call 529-7865 and make
arrangements for an evening of
productive shopping great gift and
decorating ideas and of course that
great smile.
Let’s show this young girl that we
appreciate her efforts.
The Angel Tree service is quickly
coming. The ceremony will be held
Friday, Nov. 25 at the playground in
Dungannon at 7:30 p.m.. This is the
12th year for the tree which honours
I those within our community who
have passed away leaving a parent
behind to grieve. Anyone wishing to
join us in remembering our children
done by the end of November.
Regarding the bridge south of
Wingham, Pletch stated that the
problems that had only been
discovered once work began had
slowed the progress. “This is
unfortunately not the best time of
year to find additional work,” said
Pletch.
He anticipated the work on the
bridge would continue into
December.
“It’s inconvenient,” he said of the
bridge repairs. “There’s no good
time to do it. If people slow down,
the bumps aren’t that bad.”
Bluewater councillor Bill Dowson
said repairs to the Bannockburn
please come or call me for further
details.
The Goderich and area writer’s
group Between the Sheets continues
to meet each Tuesday morning at the
Library in Goderich. We have
recently spread out a bit with a
website and you can find us through
Yahoo and join in the fun on line.
Happy birthday to Brenda Empey
who celebrated her 50th birthday
with co-workers and family
throughout the week. Her office was
decorated with streamers and
balloons when she arrived to work
on Thursday and Snippity the Clown
had a few surprises for her as she
dined out at a restaurant Wednesday
night. All the best for the next 50
Brenda.
Bridge also seem to be taking a long
time and wondered if there was
more wrong than originally thought.
“Yes,” said Pletch.
He added that a decision will soon
be made as to whether or not to pull
the asphalt off the south side or wait.
“It’s good weather now, but
unfortunately if the weather gets bad
we don’t want to be into asphalt
work. We would sooner leave it to
do in the spring, so we will be
monitoring that over the next few
weeks.”
Dowson said, “If it takes as much
time on the south side, I don’t
see how it can be done before
winter.”
