PEOPLE AROUND
WALTON
We are happy to report that
Brenda Finlayson is coming along
nice after having surgery a few
weeks ago. She was able to be out
and about this past weekend helping
her mother Kay at the Brussels
Legion craft show and reports that
she’s doing well.
The funeral for Jim Smith was
held Thursday with many Walton-
area people in attendance. Our
condolences to‘the Smith family on
their loss. We will miss Jim coming
to Walton Inn for lunch on
Wednesdays with Ron. as they have
done for quite a while.
Neil McDonald was home for the
weekend to visit with his mom,
Leona and the rest of the family. He
took time to farm a little by chisel
ploughing and spent the rest of his
time visiting.
It's hunting week so be careful and
alert. Hopefully there will be a few
less deer by week’s end and less
collisions to report. Our son-in-law
Jason had a very close call, just
missing a deer the night of Walton’s
church supper.
The high wind on the weekend
sure made a mess of some places
with branches and trees down. Gerry
Ryan lost a large branch or part of a
tree, so a little cleanup will be
necessary.
Many people from Walton will
remember when the Sanderson
family lived in the village. Brian and-
Donna, Brandi and Devon lived on
the corner of King Street and Blyth
Road. They relocated to other places
and of course the children have

grown. Returning to our area is
Devon, who is practising optometry
in Seaforth along with Dr. La Plante.
We welcome him back and wish him
success with his chosen profession.
Women and men were busy, busy,
busy on Tuesday and Wednesday,
preparing and serving up the annual
Duff’s United Church turkey supper
at the BMG Community Centre.
Over 850 diners devoured around
700 lbs. of turkey, 450 lbs. of
potatoes, 80 lbs. of cabbage, five
bushels of turnip, and over 150 pies
and desserts.
It was a great turnout and
everything went well, including the
weather. Thanks folks.
Birthday babies last week were
Darryl Hoegy, Chris Stevenson,
Kathleen Williamson, Clara Glauser,
Steven Huether, Justin Morrison,
Rita Bowers, Mark Bachert, and
Jane Zwep.

Women evening group met at the
home of Nora Stephenson on
Wednesday, Nov. 2 with nine
members and two guests present.
President Nelva Scott opened the
meeting with the UCW Purpose.
Joan Bernard led the devotions. She
gave a reading on Indian summer.
Her scripture reading was Matthew
23: 1-12. Mrs. Scott led in prayer
and Mrs. Bernard gave another
reading. The guest speakers were
Kathy Buston. director of the
Christian Resource Centre located
in Mitchell and her mother Irma
who volunteers there. Mrs. Buston
gave a history of the resource centre
and her job. She answered questions
and circulated some of the material
she had brought. She finished by
giving a humourous reading, Buying
for Dummies.
The business portion of the
meeting began with the reading and
approval of the previous meeting’s
minutes.
The Christmas boxes for the shut-
ins were discussed. A note will go in
the bulletin two weeks prior to the
week of Dec. 14 asking for
donations.
Treasurer Isabelle Wheeler gave
her report. Rene Richmond gave a
report of the stewards from the silent
auction.
Mrs. Scott gave the completed
local report forms that are to be sent
to Huron-Perth Presbytery before
Nov. 14 and discussed the statistics
report for the year 2005. One
question asked was what additional
information/resources are needed to
support the program. While
members could not pinpoint
anything in particular; they all
agreed it was necessary to make sure
all the women of the church were
aware that they were members of the
UCW and invite them to attend the
monthly meetings at either Maple
