given, that a meeting of the Board of Licen-
se Commtesionere,>for the license district of
South Huron, will be held at Dickson's Hotel
in the Village of Brucolield, on Monday last
Inst., at the hour of 10 o'clock a •m , to con-
sider the applications for license for the sale
of liquor by retail in the License District of
South Huron for the license year 1890.91.

Exeter Spring how.
T annual spring show under' the
ausp1 et of the Stephen and Usborne
agrieultural Society, w'as'held on the
tttarl+4et ox Tuesday last. The spectat-
ors present was the largest that has
been Seen for some years and the show
in every way was a success. The
machinery exhibit this year was not so
Large as previous years, only John El-
liot & Son, London, 0. Wisner, Brant•
ford nndL. D. Lawyer, Hamilton, ex.
hibiting. The L. D. Lawyer Co. had a
seperatgr., and engine in working order,
and it••was examined by a large num-
ber. The horse exhibit was fully bet-
ter than :any previous year:,although,in
the heaey class there was a slight fall-
ing o`ebut it was made up in the light
er horses. Below is the list of prize

Mr. Ralph McIntyre, of this place has

led his old route last week and visited
Slab Town on Sunday.
We are glad to learn that Mr.'Pted
Bengough, who has been sick for some
time, is getting around again.
A large crowd attended the enter-
tainment of the Young People's Literary
Society, held on Monday night last.
Mr. Wm, Westcott . has given his
house a coat of paint. Will says the
next job of painting he undertakes
will be the town and the color ver-

The Canadian -bred trotting stallion Am-
ber', by Clear Grit, formerly owned by Mr. P.
J. Pikey,of Brantford, stands at the highest
foo ofany of tho'.stallions owned by the Ital-
ian Government, •which i,aid $3500 for him
in Germ anylast 'ear -Ex. AmberF-, own-
ed by Mr. T. Murdock, of Hensall. is 500 of
Amber, and is one of the bust stallions in
Canada. He will stand at Murdock's stables
duringtho coming season.
On Friday last about fifteen of our
enterprising villagers turned out and
laid a new sidewalk from the postofiice
to the Presbyterian church. Some of
the young men must have got tired of
escorting their eerie home in the mud
,as they appeared to take` a great in-
terest in 'it.
Mr. Thomas returner, of this place, has
purchased a new separator and engine
from L. D. Sawyer & Co., of IIalnilton,
which was on exhibition at the spring
fair in Exeter on Tuesday last. The
farmers will patronize him now as he
has one of the best make of separators
on the continent.

The annual Independent Spring
Show; was held at 'Crediton yesterday.
The weather was very unfavorable,
but it did not present the attendance
of a large crowd. The show of horses
was the same as last year, while the
bulls was comparatively small. Tak-
ing the fair ou awhole it was a grand
success in every particular. The fol-

Mr. le, W. Farneomb's application for

read, and on notion of J. Shier, second•

no adieu as the position i8 not vacant.
On motion of W. Kydd, seconded by
J. halls, it wits resolved to grant S. Si
No. 10 the sum of $10 instead of it -
arranging the school sections to give
incroasod territory as petitioned for or°
a grant of460 in lieu thereof. A mot-
ion that no action be taken in the mat-
ter made by Mr. Shier found no sec-

With reference to the petition of Mr.

convenience of his children attending
school, it was resolved, thele being no

Hensall Spring Show,
The annual Spring Show was held on

Mr. Joseph Anderson,his son William,
and Spearman Kenny left this station
for the North West Territory one day
last week. where the former intends re-
maining the summer for the purpose of
ttorking the half section of land,which
he procured while these a year ago.
He took with him a supply of provis-
ions.and various other articles. We
wish them every success and a safe
journey.
The public examination held in Fair-
field school, on Wednesday, April 2nd,
was a grand success in every particu-
lar, At about 11. o'clock the visitors
began flocking inwith their baskets,
and a sumptuous dinner was provided.
After dinner the larger classes were
examined by teachers from neighbor-
ing schools, after which a chairman
was. appointed and a lengthy program-
me ensued. The school was nicely
decorated and the order of the scholars
was good, which speak well of the
teacher's abilities.

OBITUARY:—We are very sorry -te
have to record this week the death of
our young friend Mr. George Cooper,
which melancholy event oeeured in
Kansas City, U. S, on Friday last, 4th,
inst.,at the youthful and promising age
of 20 years. George was, a young mala
of gentlemanly demeanor,,good char-
acter and quick parts, and his sad. and
early death in a foreign land of Typhus
Fever touches the sympathy of all, arid
though his ashes lie in Etimville which
is some consolation to sorrowing; friends
yet alt must feel that to, soon, front
a worldly view at least, a useful and
promising life has been sadly cut short.
The body was brought home and plac-
ed beside the remains of his mother in
Elimville. We are sorry always to see
our youthful citizens leave this beloved
Canada of ours, but is sadder indeed to
see them return followed by the 'sed:
solemn procession of a funeral cortege.
The bereaved .farther and family have-
the sympathy of all in this their sail:
affliction.
Mr. James McFalls,who has been vis-
iting friends in Elimville has returned
home to Biddulph.
Miss Mary 11icFalls, of 2nd con. of
Biddulph, is visiting at Mr. Stewart
Hodgins and Robt. Atkinson's this
week.
Mr. Aubry Buswell formerly of Ex-
eter, but lately of Dashwood, has re-
moved to' Mitchell where he has secur-
ed a very good situation in the tailor
ing business.
Mr. Joseph Hodgins, the genial ]and -
lord, of the Elimville Hotel, intends. re-
turning to his farm soon. Joe thinks
more of a quiet life, than to spend his
time in the hotel business.
Mr. Wm. Dempsey, of Usborne, for-
merly of the "Times," who' has been
home for some time on the sick list, in-
tends leaving for Toronto in a few days,
where he has secured a position on the
"Empire."
Mi. Jas. Essery who has been in Lon-
don for the past three months has re-
turned home, for it few days, prepara-
tory to leaving for Detroit where he
has secured a permanent situation in
the photograph business.
