DECATUR, Ind., March 24. -Saturday afternoon, near.Stone, a small station south of this city on the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad, a man named Barr, together with his team and wagon, was blown to atoms by the ex- plosion of a large quantity of nitro- glycerine. IIe was on his way to a gas well in that vicinity which was to have been shot with the explosive. The combustion also dug up a circle of ground 60 yards in diameter, tore windows form a house, and besides making other general havoc killed a woman and her little babe, who were the only inmates of the house at the time. No traces of either ma.n or horses are to be found, excepting small pieces of flesh hanging upon the trees remote from the spot where the explo- sion occurred. Butchered by the Sioux. Pierre, S. D.,March 22 -While work- men were exeayating yesterday on the Bluff north of Capital Bill, ,they un- earthed the'remains of ten human be- ings, which had apparently been thrown into a pit and covered with stones and dirt. Six of the skulls were of white men, one of a white woman and the others of Indian. Bullet holes were found in fiye of them. The head of the woman had been crushed with a hatchet. An arrow head was found in the breast b me of an Indian skele- ton. Nothing was found to indentify the remains except a silver medallion, dated 181:7,bcaring the name of Henry Mackenzie on the reverse side, and an inscription noting the bearer was at the battle of Buena Vista. f 1. Joe Reid,a famous scout among J Sioux for 45 years,was shown the med- allion and said he remembered Mac- kenzie. Thirty five years ago he start- ed out with a party, consisting of his wife,four men .and several Indians, to go to Fort Benton from old Fort George, twelve miles from the river. The par- ty never arrived at Fort Benton, and not a trace of them eyer was found. They were doubtless butchered by the Sioux. Trap'edy at Mimico. Mimico, Ont., March 23.-A young pian named John Wade, whose parents reside at Hamilton, was fatally stabbed last night by Jdhn Byron, who resides at Merieton. Both hen were employed by the contractors of the new asylum building in coure of construction, a mill; and a half west of this place. Wade, who is only twenty-three years of age, was a carpenter by trade, and worked for Dickenson Bros. Byron is an elder= ly man, about 50 years old, and is em- ployed by Miles, Hunting & Co. The two men had an altercation on the express for :Hamilton that leaves To- ronto at eleven o'clock, when Byron, who was drunk, struck young Wade, Wade, not wishing to have any trouble on the train, did not strike, but told Byron he would have satisfaction when they arrived here. When+ the train stopped Wade walked away with some friends, followed by Byron, All the parties went toward home along the railroad track, and just after passim Church street Byron staggered against Wade, who at onee struck hien, knock- ing him down.: Byron arose and rushed at Wade with a large knife, burying it in the young man's neck, severing the jugular vein, and =kluge wound two inches long and very deep. The poor young man then called to a friend Who was near by, and said: -"Shorty, I'm stabbed," and, when asked where, replied, "In the neck." These were the last words he spoke. His friend then took out his handkerchief to bind up the wound, while another of the dying man's companions ran for a doc- 1 the whosoon in attendance c,ot t1' was o0 o poor fellow, who in the meantime had been carried to the waiting -wont of the GrandTrunkstation.
