PEOPLE AROUND BELGRAVE The regular meeting of the Belgrave Knox United Church Women Evening Group was at the home of Norma Moore on Tuesday evening with 16 ladies present. Three were special guests, invited to take part in the meeting. Sheila Nixon was in charge of the meeting and welcomed everyone. She conducted the worship service, during which Vera Schmidt of Bluevale sang two musical numbers. Have a safe RIDE Const. Mark Fraser and volunteer Christine Tabor handed out ribbons and information on driving safely to drivers in the Blyth area on Wednesday, Nov. 2. The program kicked off MADD Canada’s red ribbon campaign, which is one of MADD Canada’s biggest fund-raisers. (Heather Crawford photo) The theme of the worship was Grace in the Cracks. Muriel Coultes read the minutes of the last meeting, which were approved, and gave the treasurer’s report. Donna Shaw reported that Mabel Wheeler had sent three cards. The church’s beef supper was announced for Nov. 16 and the UCW general meeting is Thursday, Nov. 24 at 8 p.m. Plans were made to hold a social for members of the Afternoon Unit. Myrtle Pengally read a poem about Shoes, then introduced Clara Gibson of Fordwich who told of the various types and kinds of teas and their uses.. She had with her, her musical teapot and explained the Huron East says no to province’s Bill 206 By Heather Crawford Citizen staff At the Nov. 1 Huron East council meeting, councillor Joe Steffler declared a conflict of interest and refrained from any discussion on Bill 206, an act to revise the Ontario municipal employees retirement systems as he is presently a member of the fund and draws a retirement pension. Council moved not to support Bill 206, and asked the Government of Ontario to reconsider the advisability of proceeding with Bill 206 in its current form. The main concern, clerk administrator Jack McLachlan said in his recommendation, is the creation of supplementary plans to provide optional benefits to members of the primary pension plan who are employed in the police and fire sectors, or to other members and former members of the primary pension plan. There is also a concern about the representation on the proposed board. Council endorsed the resolution history of tea parties. The soloist and Mrs. Gibson were thanked by Myrtle. Mrs. Nixon had a contest while Mrs. Coultes, Lorna Cook and Mrs. Moore served lunch. A social time followed. from the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) stating that council does not support Bill 206. Also, the resolution requested that Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing John Gcrrestsen, Premier Dalton McGuinty and the AMO be advised that council does not support proposed changes to the OMERS pension fund contained in Bill 206.
