Anglican Bishop honours local people Two locals are among those honoured Oct. 30 at the fourth Bishops Award for Excellence in Ministry presentation at London s St Paul's Anglican Cathedral. The awards were begun by the Rt Rev. Bruce Howe. Bishop of Huron as a means of honouring those who. by their actions and example, are an everyday encouragement in their ministry and their communities. By extension, these awards recognize the amazing commitment by Anglicans throughout the Diocese of Huron to minister the Gospel message of love and reconciliation in many different ways. For the past 28 years. Michelle Blake has been the orgamst/musical director at St. John's Anglican Church. Brussels and at the monthly parish nursing home. She has also served as warden and on church council. Blake has been the kev organizer of the church yard and bake sale and the annual pork chop barbecue. Her smiling lace and hard work help to make St. John's projects successful For over 20 years. Blake has been the church sexton, looking alter the grounds of the church and rectory. The busy mother of three teenagers, helps her husband with their farm, and works six days a week as skating coach and at a local day care centre. Blake continues to live out her bapiismal promises and do much on the behalt ol St. John's and the wider church John Nesbit lives out his faith and witness to Christ in a multitude of quiet acts of Trinity. Blyth. He is the second generation of four generations of four generations of his family actively worshipping at Trinity. Nesbit has always taken a special interest in maintaining the church building and took a major leadership role in the construction ol the new parish hall. He has served on the church council for the past 20 years and has served terms as a deputy warden and now as rector’s warden. A master of diplomacy and considered persuasion, John’s leadership as a warden and member of church council has for many years provided a very stable voice within the Trinity family. He is often the * irst to sign up for many of Trinity’s large stewardship projects with his wife. Ann, right alongside him. His steadfast faith is reflected in the wider community through his participation in the area Food Grains project. “Yes we can" is Nesbit’s motto. It is with great affection that Trinity nominated Nesbit lor a Bishop's Award of Excellence in Ministry. x The awards were presented as pan of an evening of worship, music and fellowship by Bishop Howe and the Rt. Rev. Robert Bennett, Suffragan Bishop of Huron. Each of the first three years, the Cathedral has been jammed by nearly 1,000 recipients, family and friends celebrating God's ministry. The Anglican Diocese of Huron is made up of more than 200 congregations in a geographical area stretching from Tobermory to Lake Erie and Windsor/Sarnia to Kitchener/Waterloo.
