Anglican Bishop honours local people
Two locals are among those
honoured Oct. 30 at the fourth
Bishops Award for Excellence in
Ministry presentation at London s
St Paul's Anglican Cathedral.
The awards were begun by the Rt
Rev. Bruce Howe. Bishop of Huron
as a means of honouring those who.
by their actions and example, are an
everyday encouragement in their
ministry and their communities. By
extension, these awards recognize
the amazing commitment by
Anglicans throughout the Diocese of
Huron to minister the Gospel
message of love and reconciliation
in many different ways.
For the past 28 years. Michelle
Blake has been the orgamst/musical
director at St. John's Anglican
Church. Brussels and at the monthly
parish nursing home. She has also
served as warden and on church
council.
Blake has been the kev organizer
of the church yard and bake sale and
the annual pork chop barbecue. Her
smiling lace and hard work help to
make St. John's projects successful
For over 20 years. Blake has been
the church sexton, looking alter the
grounds of the church and rectory.
The busy mother of three
teenagers, helps her husband with
their farm, and works six days a
week as skating coach and at a local
day care centre.
Blake continues to live out her
bapiismal promises and do much on
the behalt ol St. John's and the wider
church
John Nesbit lives out his faith and
witness to Christ in a multitude of
quiet acts of Trinity. Blyth. He is the
second generation of four
generations of four generations of
his family actively worshipping at
Trinity.
Nesbit has always taken a special
interest in maintaining the church
building and took a major leadership
role in the construction ol the new
parish hall. He has served on the
church council for the past 20 years
and has served terms as a deputy
warden and now as rector’s warden.
A master of diplomacy and
considered persuasion, John’s
leadership as a warden and member
of church council has for many years
provided a very stable voice within
the Trinity family.
He is often the * irst to sign up for
many of Trinity’s large stewardship
projects with his wife. Ann, right
alongside him. His steadfast faith is
reflected in the wider community
through his participation in the area
Food Grains project. “Yes we can" is
Nesbit’s motto. It is with great
affection that Trinity nominated
Nesbit lor a Bishop's Award of
Excellence in Ministry. x
The awards were presented as pan
of an evening of worship, music and
fellowship by Bishop Howe and the
Rt. Rev. Robert Bennett, Suffragan
Bishop of Huron.
Each of the first three years, the
Cathedral has been jammed by
nearly 1,000 recipients, family and
friends celebrating God's ministry.
The Anglican Diocese of Huron is
made up of more than 200
congregations in a geographical area
stretching from Tobermory to Lake
Erie and Windsor/Sarnia to
