This past Friday night the Brussels
Novice hosted Zurich.
Brussels started strong as Kai
Hiemstra scored a shorthanded,
unassisted goal. Lexi Smith gave the
home side a 2-0 lead late in the first
period.
Midway through the second Smith
scored her second with Hayden
lenPas assisting Smith then
returned the favour for TenPas who

were not jumping out of their scats.

I he Blyth Atom Girls hockey
leant travelled to Kincardine on
Saturday. Oct. 29.
Blyth opened the scoring in the
Inst with a goal by Shelsie Popp,
assisted by Courtney Middcgaal.
I wo minutes later Kincardine tied
up the game. Then with one second
left in the period Kincardine got the
go-ahead goal.
I here was much end-to-end
action in the second. Many scoring
chances were had. with the passing
and positional play of Nicole
and Chloe Middcgaal. Goalie
Iordan deed made some
excellent saves between the pipes
lor Blyth.

Higgins. MacKenzie Nesbitt and
lustinc Reid contributed greatly in
ihc match. Forwards, Kayla Dale.
I c\i Smith and Rebecca Chalmers
also applied pressure in the
opponent's end.
Kincardine's hard work during the
ilmd paid oil with four more goals.
Bl\ih scored again with an

Brussels a 4-0 lead. With time
winding down in the second
Hiemstra scored to give the home
side a 5-0 lead heading into the third.
Mitch Kellington scored a hattrick
on his first two shifts of that period.
Wyatt Ducharme assisted on two of
them with Jason Baxter getting the
other assist.
Zurich came to life and scored a
McIntosh with a quick snap to the
top left.
Kristen McArter assisted with a
fast on-ice pass out of the corner.
Chesley was quick to tie up the
game.
The game-winning, unassisted
goal was scored by Trista Deilncr
with a screened knuckle ball shot
unassisted goal from Popp. score. Kincardine won 6-2.
Although the effort put forth by The next game is in Saugeen'
Blyth was not shown in the final Shores Nov. 5.

game, Reece' McArter responded
with a pair of goals. Baxter assisted
on the first.
Hiemstra. from Hruska, finished
the scoring for Brussels and gave the
home side a 13-3 victory.

It was an outstanding goaltending
performance once again by Brianne
Wheeler, who made a great number
of saves.
Both teams had their fair share of
penalties.
The final score, was 2-1 for
Brussels.

With the arrival of October. Blyth
junior broomball is well underway.
Three weeks of practices have
occurred and now the regular season
play has begun.
The Blyth Kings are a Bantam
boys broomball team for boys ages
12 and 13 years. These players come
together to play broomball from
Blyth, Clinton, Lucknow.
Dungannon, Brussels and
suiTounding areas. The Kings have a
large team on the roster this year
with 19 eager players signed up for
the season.
The Blyth arena hosted the first
game of the season on Saturday,
Oct. 29 at 4:15 p.m. The Mildmay
Jets were the Kings' opponents.
Derek Logtenberg covered (he net
for Blyth. as the goalie. This was a
very competitive and evenly-
matched game.
The start of the season is always a
challenge as players learn their
positions, change their shifts on the
lly. remember the offside rule and
the new teammates work together as
a team.
Carey posts shutout
Goalie Dalton Carey helped his
team win the Blyth Novice hockey
game with a 8-0 shut out against
Clifford Thursday, Oct. ,27 at the
Blyth arena.
Curtis Raynard made the first goal
in the first* period, assisted by
Autumn Wightman and Dylan
Walton.
Wightman scored in the second
with Ryan Plunkett and Josh Van
The teams played a strong game
with scoring opportunities from
both sides.
With less than four minutes of
play left in the second period the
game remained scoreless, then a
Blyth forward received a penalty for
pushing a Mildmay player into the
boards. With the Kings playing
shorthanded for the next two
minutes, the coaches and fans were
on the edge of their seats. The Kings
played strong during the penalty and
even managed, a shot on - the
Mildmay net, which unfortunately
hit the crossbar.
The final buzzer rang and there
still was no score. There was no
time for overtime play to break the
tie as ice time was over. A tie was a
respectable ending to the great effort
put forth by all members of the
Blyth Kings.
Logtenberg was named Man of
the Match by coach Jennifer
Miltenburg, for his outstanding play
covering the Blyth net. Assistant
coach for the Kings is Kay
Logtenberg.

The team’s six goals in the third
period were by Dustin Pennington,
assisted by Raynard and Ashley
Higgins; Raynard, unassisted;
Higgins, assisted by Pennington and
Wightman; Pennington, unassisted;
and two from Van Soest, one assisted
by Plunkett and Dustin Treble.
There were two penalties for
Clifford and one penalty on Blyth.
