Responding to the letter at the Sept. 19 meeting, councillor Archie MacGowan said “Unfortunately, we are going to have people upset. Rightly or wrongly the water rates didn't increase (since 1992), and the costs of maintaining the water system, as everyone knows, have gone up exponentially since Walkerton.” Blyth rates as of the beginning of August increased by $10 a month. The ratepayer in question owns residential, business and rental properties. The increase on her statement, she noted, was $120. This will help ensure that children are better prepared for school entry the following September. To celebrate the registration, there may be activities and Arnold Taylor also expressed reservations. “ I feel the same way as councillor MacGowan. If we come in under budget maybe the money should be put in a reserve. Every time we come in under budget I don't feel we can spend it.” “1 am having trouble seeing the need for a truck at the landfill.” said Nesbitt in making the motion to decline. Councillor Edgar Daer and deputy-reeve Murray Scott voted against the motion. *** Bills and accounts totalling $875,294.51 plus an addition of $1,587, were approved for payment. *** Council voted to proceed with the application for phase two of the grant for recreation and facilities. at many schools, such as crafts, story time, music and refresh ments.
