Agriculture Brussels Livestock report Cows, veal sell on strong, active Total receipts for Brussels Livestock for the week ending Sept. 23 were 3.272 head of cattle. 489 lambs and goats. On Tuesday the fed steers and heifers sold on a steady market. Choice steers and heifers sold $91 to $97 with sales to $104. Second-cut steers and heifers sold $88 to $90. The cows sold on a strong active trade. On Thursday the veal sold on a strong active trade with prices up $4 to $5 over last week. The lambs traded on a steady market. On Friday calves and year­ lings sold $2 to $5 higher. There were 508 steers on offer. Bill Kerslake. Staffa. consigned one limousin steer weighing 1.445 lbs. which sold for $103.25. His overall offering of twenty-three steers aver­ aged 1.470 lbs. selling for $99.44. Twenty-six steers consigned by Lester Gingerich, Kenilworth, aver­ aged 1.358 lbs. which sold for an average price of $91.32 with his top blonde steer weighing 1.385 lbs. selling to Highland Packers Ltd. for $100.25. Mitchell, con­ signed two black steers averaging 1.445 lbs. which sold to Highland Barn, livestock lost in A-C-W barn blaze On Sept. 24 at approximately 8:30 p.m. Huron OPP were called to assist a' a fire located just off of Glen's Hill Road in Ashfield- Colborne Wawanosh. The Lucknow and District Fire Department was on scene battling a barn blaze. The structure was actual­ ly three barns joined together in a z- shapc. The main section was on fire. The barn and all livestock were lost. The farm operation had 600 sows. 700 piglets and four boars inside. The total value of the loss is estimated at over $1 million.
