Florists donate to clinic
By Bonnie Gropp
Citizen editor
Luann Taylor of Luann’s Country
Flowers in Blyth knows that
sometimes life can take a nasty turn.
It’s up to each individual to figure
out what you do about it.
October is Breast Cancer
Awareness Month and last year.
Taylor, a breast cancer survivor,
decided upon a fundraiser for the
Huron County breast screening
clinic in Goderich.
Through the sale of carnation
bouquets, Taylor, who donated a
portion of each purchase, raised
$500 for the clinic.
This year, three more flower shop
owners have joined the effort. From
Oct. 11 to Oct. 29 the Take Care
Bouquet can be purchased for
$18.99 from Luann’s Country
Flowers, Blooms and Rooms in
Seaforth. Cooke’s Florist in Clinton
and Village Vines in Exeter. For
each bouquet of one dozen carnation
sold, $5 will be donated to the clinic.
In addition to the flowers, the
bouquet also includes information
on self-breast examination and
breast cancer information.
“It’s a beautiful way to remind the
special female in your life to take
care of themselves, visit their
doctors annually, do a self-breast
examination monthly and have a
mammogram,” said Taylor.

Park talks
continue
Breast cancer touches many
people. One in nine women will be
diagnosed with the disease and early
detection increases the chances of
survival. “I was very excited to see
these other businesses join in the
fight,” said Taylor.
“My hope for next year would be
that every flower shop in the county
will become involved in the effort to
raise awareness and funds for the
clinic.”
Interested parents and residents of
the Blyth area have been meeting to
investigate the possibility of a youth
activity park in the village.
Informal discussions have also
taken place with the Twp. of North
Huron's recreaction director Dan
Cousins,
Meetings are held monthly.
