Dizzying fun
Kids lined up for their turn on the spinning, twisting rides offered at the Brussels Fall Fair on
Tuesday night. (Heather Crawford photo)
Oh my. another month of 2005 has
bit the dust. September is a month of
transition, as the school holiday is
finished and the schedules of
activities for all become established.
This is a good time to join a new
group so think about your interests
and I’m sure there is a group for
you. Each of the churches have
groups that deal with world issues
and spiri'uality. St. John Ambulance
will fill your need to help, often in
community gatherings as well your
level of first aid will be increased.
The Institute is a good group for
public interest and has a good record
lor changing legislation for the
better. The Lions and Optimist
Clubs serve the community in many
ways as do the lodges.
Check these groups out. You’ll
enjoy yourself and be welcome at
any of them.
Lots of folks around were looking
back at the time (hey heard of the
death of Jeanne Ireland. Jeanne was
the kindergarten teacher for many of
the adults in our midst- and gave
them a good start into the academic
world. After retirement she was out
and about always pleasantly
encouraging community. Thanks
Jeanne.
The sun shone bright on the 144th
Brussels Fair. Great exhibits and
wonderful talents were shown and it

was a good, parade. What more
could we ask? Thanks to the fair
board and all their extra helpers, as
well as the folks who entered al!
your good stuff for us to see.
Meanwhile in Perth County the
International Plowing Match was in
full swing. For the first time in a
long time I actually saw the plowed
fields this year. In past visits, as this
one, there is so much to do and see
that when you have only a day you
have to make some pretty tough
choices - music, old machinery,
crafts, animals, quilts, agriculture
businesses, retail sales people and
on and on.
So we had a good visit once again
and enjoyed the celebration of Perth
County. Next time 1’11 try to see the
plowing actually being done.
In case you missed me the last
couple of weeks, Ralph and I were
having fun in eastern Canada. Once
again I marvel at the diversity and
beauty of our home. We took the
back roads and got the feel of (he

as much as possible. Nova Scotia
and Cape Breton Island got
shortchanged as the warning of the
hurricane got us to head west. The
tides on the Bay of Fundy and the
beauty of water and mountains on
the Cabot Trail remain vivid but
each day was a joy with new things
to see and feel humble by the age
and history of the eastern provinces.
Hello from Nancy and Bruce
Corrigan who now call Great
Village, Nova Scotia home. The
names of the places in the Maritimes
were fun to watch and visit, just up
the road from the Corrigans, are
villages with names like Economy,
Upper Economy and yes, nearby is
Lower Economy.
The church in Great Village was
rebuilt in 1847 and the ceiling is
made in the pattern of the hull of a
boat, which would have been the
major life work at that time.
It’s an historical site and pretty
impressive.
So back to reality, after another
good holiday tucked away in the
memory file.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
afternoon.
Kids also participated in a fun
tractor pull. Beattie said it was a
favourite among the younger school
children. “I talked to some of the
kids.” she said, “and they all loved
the tractor pull. I think they could
have stayed out there al) day.”
Blaney said, “There was very
good support and everyone who
volunteered was happy with the
results.”
