The regular meeting of Morning
Star Rebekah Lodge #3 15 took place
on Sept. 13 with Noble Grand Sister
Elva Brown presiding. Dinner at
J.R.’s was enjoyed prior to the
meeting.
It was decided to hold casserole
suppers and card parties on Oct. 17,
Nov. 21. Feb. 20 and March 20.
The installation of officers by
District Deputy President Sister
Shirley Cooper of Huron-Perth
District #23 will be held on Sept. 27.

The Majestic Women’s Institute
met in the library on Wednesday.

Mrs. Bev Palmer was the guest
speaker. She spoke on her trip to
Japan and Rio de Janiero. She
showed several pictures of the
countries.
The county rally is to be in
Belgrave on Oct. 3.
Oct. 25 is the date for the Guelph
Area Convention. This is to be held
in the Elma Community Centre.
Lucy Hesse is taking the donated
teddy bears to Mississauga to the
Quilts, Quills and Bears show. They
hope to have enough to fill a police
car.
Happy birthday was sung to Alice
Brothers who was 89 on Sept. 10.

The Brussels Legion executive
met Tuesday evening. Sept. 13 a
week earlier than usual because of
the Brussels Fair being this week.
It was reported that the
elimination draw tickets are about
213 sold, so the push to sell out is
on. The draw is this Saturday, Sept.
24

at Ripley on Thursday evening and
lound it very interesting.

chicken and rice was enjoyed by

This week in the Legion year is
celebrated as Legion week, a time to
promote the Legion and what it
docs. It is also a chance to clear up
any misconceptions about the
Legion.
Yes, the Legion has a liquor
licence and yes you can get a drink
there. But that’s not all you can do at
the Legion. There are euchre days
and dancing that anyone can attend.
We have Friday night suppers that
people can come out and enjoy.
Cadets are sponsored by the
Branch and the Brussels Pipe Band
uses the hall for practice at no
charge.
The Brussels Legion supports the
Brussels Public School proficiency
awards, track and field awards, and
promotes the Remembrance Day
posters, essays and poems contest at
Grey and Brussels schools. They
also support the public speaking
contest.
The Brussels PeeWce hockey
team has been supported in new
jerseys, and tournament entries for
many years.
The Legion promotes and hosts
the Remembrance Day services to
honour those who have served and
died in the service of their country.
Monies collected through the
Poppy Fund have strict guidelines
for use. Support for veterans’ care,
hospital programs, veterans’ dinners
and programs are supported through
Poppy funds. At no time are funds
used to support the Branch or its
expenses.
It is the Brussels Legion’s
commitment to support this
community and wd thank this
community for its support of the
Legion.
Break-in
at
Melville
On Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. OPP were
notified of a break-in at Melville
Presbyterian Church in Brussels.
A representative of the church
was notified that a window had
been forced open.
Someone had searched some
rooms and entered a number of
cupboards.
A check of the church, however
found that nothing was missing.
If you can help solve this case call
the OPP or Crime Stoppers.

Council of the Municipality of
Huron East would like to
extend their sincere
appreciation to the Vanastra &
District Lions Club for their
involvement in the “Harley Davidson Fundraiser”.
This fundraiser was undertaken to assist with costs
associated with the construction of the family
accessible change room at the Vanastra Recreation
Centre.
Lions Club Members volunteered a tremendous
amount of time and effort in order to make this
fundraiser a success. The family accessible change
room will provide a great service for many years.
