PEOPLE AROUND
WALTON

13 had a great time and heard some
great music.
Many households will seem extra
quiet with the university or college
kids off to school. Our own daughter
Kelly is off to the Michener Institute,
a part of University of Toronto, in
Toronto. So even the weekends will
be quiet. Sarah McDonald is back at
Wilfrid Laurier and so is Katie
Emmrich.
1 will update on other students
next week.
Our sympathies are extended to
the McLachlan families on the
passing of Muriel McLachlan.
Speedy recovery wishes go out to
Mildred Gillis who was a patient in
Stratford and Seaforth hospitals, but
has been sent home. We hope she
comes along well.
Birthday wishes to Mary Huether,
Sandra Zwep, Stephen Ryan, Sharon
Pryce, Bryce Kruse, Brian Huether,
Albrecht Ringgenberg, Rhonda
Ryan, Kim Strome, Jason Shortreed,
Maxine Houston, Brent Pryce, Joelle
Glanville, Kim Kruse, Barb
Finlayson, James Emmrich, Jamie
Mitchell, Haden Flood, David
Grobbink, Steve Bowers, Julie
Glauser, Andrew Kruse, and George
Blake.
The first week of school is over
and things are getting worked out on
the busing. With the integration of
junior and senior kindergarten, it
takes awhile to get the bugs out.
I have some new little ones to start
yet but basically my bus load is the
same. Eagerly awaiting their first
day are Katelynn Becker, Jacob
Gulutzen, and Emma Taylor. They
grow up so fast.
Welcoming a new little one on
Walton Road are Jeff and Sara
Grobbink. They have a wee son,
named Jack Jeffrey to keep daughter
Lily company. Congrats to the
parents and grandparents Henry and
Marianna.
Walton was just abounding with
traffic on the weekend. Motorhomes
and campers, trucks and trailers off
to either the Blyth Thresher Reunion
or coming to Walton for the Vet
Master and Fox Series Motorcross
race. Obviously the price of fuel
didn’t put these people off. It was a
beautiful weekend for any event and
I understand both were great
Indians
The Walton Indians slo-pitch team
participated in the Winthrop men’s
league tournament held in Seaforth
on the weekend.
The Indians were right on the ball
with their bats, slugging out 77 runs
in just three games. They gave up
only 12 runs, so their defensive
game was right on as well.
The Indians played the Winthrop
Young Guns and earned an 18-2
victory. Next was a victory over the
Seaforth Eagles by a score of 31-4.
The Indians advanced to the A
final game against the Winthrop
Oilers and a victory of 28-6 made
them champions.
The strong bats of team members
Barry Young, Brian Dolmage, Steve
Camochan, Kevin Murray and Scott
McDonald all having homeruns and
great hits and plays by other team
members including Chris Blake, Jeff
Linton, Devon Blake, Robbie
McClure and a few others made for
wm tournament
this week. A game on Friday night
saw them defeat the Wroxeter
Rippers 18-2. On Sunday they
defeated the Zurich Rangers 5-4.
In the Zurich game, Paul Dolmage
was on the mound and pitched very
well. Ron Strome helped the cause
with a homerun and Matt
Shortreed’s two-out, bottom-of-the-
seventh triple that scored three runs,
gave Walton the win.
The Brewers finished third in the
league with a 15 and 8 record. They
will participate in the year-end
tournament in Exeter this week
end.
FROM WALTON
a good tournament.
Congrats to all the players.
The Walton Brewers have ended
the regular schedule with two wins
successes.
Many young people from Walton
attended a concert in Stratford on
Friday night. Two bands Sum 41 and

happening at Blyth’s Thresher Reunion and beyond. (Heather Crawford photo)
What’s cookin’?
Karen Bowles, right, and Beth Earl, were busy in the kitchen
at Grey Central school on Saturday as supporters of the
Ethel United Church came out to a fish fry on Saturday at
Grey Central Public School. The fish was cooked by
members of the Brussels Legion. (Heather Crawford photo)
