Tom Pcnhale's George White #6
thresher is a real crowd pleaser.
The 44th annual Thresher Reunion
and Steam Show will only be the
second year the equipment has been
on display in Blyth.
A fascination in seeing wheels go
around has proven beneficial for this
Bay he Id area farmer.
The George White # 6 thresher is a
people pleaser because, not only is it
operated by steam power, but the
people can actually see what is
happening inside the thresher.
"They can see the grain being

He said he was a bit mechanically
inclined, but the interest just seemed
to grow from there.
“I was always fascinated by wheels
going round,” he said. “I like to see
machinery work.”
The interest in seeing wheels go
around got him involved in the
Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby
Association Inc. for approximately
15 years.
“I’ve always enjoyed threshing,”
said Penhale.
He is the chairman of the threshing
committee for this year's reunion. He
enjoys being around the old
machinery.
“A new tractor doesn’t turn me
on.” he said. “An old one does.”
Having served a number of terms
as a director, Penhale said everyone
shares in doing the work. It doesn't
matter if they're the director or not.
“Everyone does an equal amount
of work,” he said.

internal operations of the thresher.
According to Penhale. steam itself
attracts a lot of people, but by
allowing them to see the internal
operations, even -more people are
attracted.
“As soon as the demonstration
began, people just seemed to gather.”
he said.
“Last year, we had one set of
bleacher seats. This year, we are
going to have two bleachers.”
He said both young and old are
attracted to the demonstration,
because “threshing is a thing of the
past.”
“It is very educational to some
people,” he said.
He said he picked this model to
restore because it was smaller than
other models.
“That makes it easier to store and
to transport.” he said.
However. he added the
demonstration is the same as what
would be received on a larger model.
