The Walton Master Brewers travelled to North Bay to participate in a Masters tournament. Masters fastball has the age stipulations of players being 38 to play and 40 to pitch. The Walton Master Brewers finished fourth overall from a field of 32 teams after the round robin. In the first game they defeated Hamilton 10-0 in three innings with Doug Conley striking out six out of nine batters. The highlight of the game was Brad Knight’s well-hit long ball homerun that was still rising as it cleared the centrefield fence. The second game was against a fun bunch of guys from Huntsville and Walton won l-0. Walton’s run came from a homerun by Kevin Rouston. They left five baserunners stranded on base and an outstanding play by Huntsville’s left field was a great throw that resulted in Jim McDonald being called out at home. Larry Lowes faced 18 batters in the five-inning game, earning four strikeouts. Game three saw Doug Conley on the mound to earn the 16-3 win over Bracebridge. There were no homeruns but all the Walton batters did well. Steve Rathwell went three for three at the plate. Doug Conley hit three RBIs and Dave Fischer had five RBIs. The Walton Master Brewers ended the round robin with a 3-0 record, scoring 27 runs and giving up only three runs. The Masters were pitted against the Sucker Creek Raiders for their playoff game on Saturday night. It was a good game with Walton giving up two runs in the first inning but coming back to take four in the second. It was back and forth with runs for and against and when down Walton responded with some clutch doubles McGavin, Grobbink take top prizes A Walton-area youth captured a first place at the Bruce County Plowing Match held Friday outside Mildmay at the Schaefer Brothers’ farm. Brandon McGavin won the open tractor plowing competition for under 15s. As well the 2004 Huron County Queen of the Furrow Rosanna Grobbink of the Walton area, won the ambassador plowing contest held to be tied 6-6 at the end of regulation play. The Raiders scored two runs at their bat to go ahead 8-6. Walton managed to score one run at their bat and had runners on first and second when the third out was called and Walton suffered the 8-7 defeat. The Walton Master Brewers are: Doug Conley, Larry Lowes, Brad Knight, Steve Knight, Brian Neill, Rick McDonald, Jim McDonald, Steve Rathwell, Scott Robinson, Dave Fischer and Kevin Rouston. Congrats to all the guys especially the six who don’t even play ball on a regular team or basis. Scott Leonhardt and Steve Leonhardt carried the pitching duties and Scott McDonald had two homeruns in the Chepstow win. The Brewers moved into the A consolation division to play Orangeville in the playoff round. This was a really good game but a couple of critical errors resulted in a 6-5 defeat for the Brewers.
