Area route one of 19
great fall drives
A familiar route to Perth and
Huron » County residents,
Shakespeare to the Shoreline has
been selected as one of 19 Great Fall
Drives by the Ontario Ministry of
Tourism.
This new initiative is a province
wide program offering an
opportunity to tour, taste and linger
using a colourful new brochure to
guide their travels throughout
Ontario. Each excursion explores
beautiful countryside and features a
sampling of great experiences along
the way. Maps and contact
information complete the package.
The Fall Drives Shakespeare-to-
thc-Shoreline route was developed
by the regional partners who jointly
created this special travel piece,
following the historic Hwy. 8. from
the Hamlet of Shakespeare to the
shores of Lake Huron. The
Shakespeare to the Shoreline travel
program is now in its second year
and this support from the Ontario
Tourism ministry is a great
opportunity to welcome residents to
become tourists in their own
backyard.
The Great Fall Drives brochures,
200,000 in total, are being
distributed in travel centres such as
Tourism Stratford and Tourism
Goderich, as well as through the
CAA travel magazine, Ontario
Travel Centres and corporate
partners: Avis, Ontario’s Finest Inns.
Resorts Ontario and Ontario Parks.
This brochure distribution is
supported online at:
www.ontariotravel.net/greatdrives
The Shakespeare to the Shoreline
travel experience encourages
visitors to the Stratford area to stay
longer and explore the region, using
self-guided themed tour routes.
Shakespeare to the Shoreline themes
include: Antiques and Collectibles,
Artisans and Art Galleries, Farm
Markets. Gardens and Gardeners’
Dreams. Historic Stops and
Attractions, Live Theatre and
Performances and Nature Walks.
This new travel project will
stimulate interest in creating
overnight driving tours throughout
Ontario that showcase the bounty of
fall - spectacular fall colours, harvest
activities and fall fairs. The Great
Fall Drives program welcomes a
broad market to experience Perth
and Huron Counties this fall.

Bused Students
The Huron County Health Unit
has reported a fourth dead crow
has tested positive for West Nile
virus. The crow was found in the
town of Zurich. The health unit
will no longer be collecting dead
birds for viral testing because the
testing limit has been reached.
However, the health unit
encourages residents and visitors
to continue to call the to report all
dead crows and blue jays.
Mosquito surveillance activities
continue across Huron County. To
date, there have been no West Nile
positive mosquitoes in Huron
County. However, 15 of 36 health
units in the province have reported
positive mosquito pools this year.
The Huron County Health Unit
will continue mosquito and dead
bird surveillance activities until the
first frost.
Dr. Beth Henning, medical
officer of health, said it is
important for people to continue
protecting themselves and their
families from mosquito bites due
to increasing West Nile virus
activity across Ontario.
To report a dead crow or blue jay
sighting, call the Huron County
Health Unit at 482-3416 Ext. 2001
or if long distance, dial 1-877-837-
