Humphries mark 50th
Walton Hall was the place to be
on Sunday afternoon as family,
friends and neighbours came to
celebrate Marjory and Bill
Humphries' golden wedding
anniversary.
The former Marjory MacDonald,
born in Culross Twp., Bruce County
was the daughter of Edna and Lewis
MacDonald. She and her groom
were married at Teeswater Knox
Presbyterian Church, Aug. 27, 1955
by Rev. McKinney.
Attendants were Donna
(MacDonald) Hetherington, Gladys
Coxon. Wenda Humphries, Elaine
Carter, John MacDonald, Howard
Hackwell and Stewart Hum
phries.
The couple have lived in Walton
for their entire married life. They
raised five children: Roger, Susan
(Nichol), Paul, Peggy and Gregory.
Since 1992 they have been
enjoying retirement.
Special guests for their
anniversary attended from
Hagersville, London, Owen Sound,
Keady, Elmira, Kitchener, Barrie,
Everett, Teeswater, Toronto,
Wingham, Mississauga. Zurich and
the surrounding area.
There was a good attendance at
Duff's United Church. Walton, for
the shower for bride-to-be Sharon
Godkin. The program consisted of
Phyllis and Sean Mitchell playing
the violin and Abby McGavin and
Sara Elligsen step dancing. A sing
song was held. Shannon Craig read
the address and a lovely lunch was
served.
Jean Bewley has returned from
Calgary where she attended the
wedding of grandson Scott Raven
and new wife Heather. Scott is the
youngest son of Dan and Brenda
Raven.
Accompanying Jean was her other
daughter Mary Baker and Mary’s
two sons and their girlfriends from
Bolton.
Jean reports a glorious time of
visiting, rehearsing, wedding,
brunches, and watching the young
ones go whitewater rafting. They all
had a great time.
On Wednesday a family lunch was
enjoyed by the McDonalds to visit
with Charlie and Karin Calhoun.
Joining in the lunch were Rick and
Jo-Ann McDonald, Leona
McDonald. Charlie and Karin, Mary
Bernard and Judy Lee.
On Thursday morning, the blue
room of the Walton Inn was bursting
at the comers with the friends of
Marie Coutts gathering for a small
moving-away party. They enjoyed
coffee and cake.
The over 20 people present gave
Marie a small going-away gift.
Congratulations to Katie
Williamson who was the runner-up
in the Huron County Plowing Match
Queen of the Furrow competition.
Duff’s United Church catered to a
Blyth Festival dinner group of
almost 90 on Friday evening. A roast
beef dinner was served.
The outside work at the Walton
Hall is pretty well complete with
only the front doors left to do.
The hall really looked nice for the
50th wedding anniversary
celebration for Bill and Marjory
Humphries.
Part of the festivities started earlier
with Bill and Marj enjoying the
Celtic celebration in Kincardine as
they both love the sound of the bag
pipes. The family travelled to
Kincardine to join them for dinner,
then enjoyed the parade and more
pipe playing.
A come-and-go party was held at
the Walton Hall on Sunday
afternoon. Members of the Women's
Institute looked after the lunch as
family members and the honoured
couple enjoyed visiting with family,
friends and neighbours.
Congratulations to Bill and
Marjory.
Celebrating birthdays last week
were Jacob Flood, Emerson
Mitchell, Gloria Wilbee, Jack
McCall, Nicole McIntosh, Shawn
Flaxbard, Brad Shortreed, Viola
Traviss, Blaine Hackwell, Charlene
Thompson, Christine Gulutzen, Terri
Gulutzen, Pat Nolan, Cheryl Lee,
Sarah Fraser, Kelly Hackwell, and
Brent Godkin.
Home for a visit with Howard and
Audrey Hackwell were Patricia and
Eddie, Andrades with Sebastian and
Pam Hack well.
Sebastian was staying for his last
summer holiday with Grandma and
Grandpa. Pam even helped out at the
Sunday night dance at the Legion
and got a real kick out of it.

Brewers win, win
The Walton Brewers played
against the Brussels Tigers on
Wednesday night in Brussels.
They came away the winners by a
score of 3-0 in a very good
game.
The Brewers travelled to Hensall
to play the .Zurich Rangers on
Sunday night. It again was a good
game with the Brewers coming out
the winners by a score of 5-4.
Larry Lowes had a troubled first
inning on the mound giving up four
runs, then pitched the rest of the
game perfectly.
Both Steve Leonhardt and Matt
Shortreed stole home. Scott
McDonald hit a two-run triple in
the top of the seventh to give the
Brewers the win.

OPP to be out
in full force
The Western Region OPP are
encouraging the public to do their
part in making this Labour Day
weekend a safe and enjoyable end to
a wonderful summer.
Police are expecting a large
number of vehicles to be on the
highways this coming weekend.
Many cottagers will be going north
to take advantage of the last long
weekend of the summer, and many
people will be returning from their
summer vacation hide-a-ways for
their children to return to school.
OPP officers will be out in full
force with specific emphasis on
seatbelts, alcohol, and aggressive
driving. “Tragically, we still see a
large number of fatalities in our
region where people are not wearing
their seatbelts,” advises Traffic Staff
Sergeant Steve Porter. “A seathelt is
the single most inexpensive,
successful life insurance you can
get.”
Leaving a little more time to
travel, keeping a safe distance
between you and other vehicles on
the road, and monitoring your own
speed can go a long way to make
this long weekend a safe one for you
and your family.
