OPP to be out in full force The Western Region OPP are encouraging the public to do their part in making this Labour Day weekend a safe and enjoyable end to a wonderful summer. Police are expecting a large number of vehicles to be on the highways this coming weekend. Many cottagers will be going north to take advantage of the last long weekend of the summer, and many people will be returning from their summer vacation hide-a-ways for their children to return to school. OPP officers will be out in full force with specific emphasis on seatbelts, alcohol, and aggressive driving. “Tragically, we still see a large number of fatalities in our region where people are not wearing their seatbelts,” advises Traffic Staff Sergeant Steve Porter. “A seathelt is the single most inexpensive, successful life insurance you can get.” Leaving a little more time to travel, keeping a safe distance between you and other vehicles on the road, and monitoring your own speed can go a long way to make this long weekend a safe one for you and your family.
