Morris-Turnberry council briefs Council size still on agenda Gone fishin9 It was a fun day outdoors, Aug. 20 as Huron OPP spent a day fishing with kids at Falls Reserve. This was the second year of the program which saw 132 participants last year. Under cloudy skies and enduring the occasional drizzle this year were over 140 children. (Photo submitted) Clerk said co-operation key Continued from page 1 that it would be impossible for them to change the dates of the show as they are booked five years in advance as part of a circuit. Judges come from great distances and have to be arranged in advance. In a telephone interview late last week, Stewart explained emphatically that the main goal is to find a solution for both parties. “We do have an overlap in time, but we want to determine how to satisfy both groups.” Stewart said he felt that the arrival of the Campvention people did not necessarily have to impact the dog show. “My understanding is that they will take what area’s available to them.”. The campsite has 800 available sites and to accommodate both the dog show and Campvention on the Thursday 400 sites are required, Stewart said. “So by both parties co operating I don’t see an impossibility in working this out.” Pullen said they have agreed to start the show earlier in the day and with the addition of an extra judge could hopefully move it along so they might be out an hour earlier on the Thursday. Stewart said that if necessary staff could come in to help the Campvention people prepare on Thursday. “It’s unfortunate, but both parties will have to give a little bit. To me the logical solution is to try to work together on this.” One thing Stewart stressed several times, was the fact that both events are important. While the dog show has been a part of the community for over 20 years, the Campvention opportunity is giving the township an opportunity to promote the campsite. Over $100,000 has been invested in improvements for this event. “As a community and as council we want to see both groups use the facilities. We will encourage them to work together,” he saicf adding that they had always known there would be a tight time frame.” Whether or not Morris-Turnberry council should decrease in size was discussed at the Aug. 23 meeting in Belgrave. Members reported on what they found from talking with people in the community. They said that the opinion of constituents was mixed. Some felt fewer members would not be as effective while others felt fewer members would save money. The item was deferred until more feedback could be collected. *** There were amendments made to the personnel regulations for the Municipality of Morris-Turnberry at the Aug. 23 meeting. Work attire was discussed and denim blue jeans were taken out of “unacceptable attire.” T-shirts with bold logos were left in as unacceptable attire. This affects all municipal employees including office, road and landfill workers. *** Council discussed the possibility of buying a chain of office for the council members to wear. Chain of office is a large necklace on felt with symbols on it. Council was looking into a goldplated one. It would be used for ceremonial purposes. Mayor Dorothy Kelly offered to pay up to $1,000. The cost of the chain is $2,405 plus tax. Council decided that was too much money and is going to continue to look into the matter further to see if there are less expensive options.*** A decision to donate $300 to the Brussels Agricultural Society for the fall fair was made.*** There was some concern raised by councillor Edna McLellan about safety at the corner of Button Line and Moncrieff Road. Residents in the area were concerned about the lack of a warning about the drop in the road. Public works co-ordinator, Barry O’Krafka said he would look into it further. *** A petition to pave Queen Street in Bluevale was discussed. This item was deferred until the 2006 budget. *** Construction on the Bluevale Hall was discussed. Work must be completed by the first week in November.
