WOAA women's hockey
adopts privacy policy
I'he WOAA women’s hockey
group adopted a privacy policy at
its annual meeting held Aug. 15 at
the Wingham Legion hall.
In tact, the Western Ontario
Athletic Association (WOAA) has
adopted a privacy policy.
Barrv MacDonald ol Ripley
explained that the WOAA has
received permission from the
Ontario Minor Hockey Association
(OMHA) to follow their policy.
He indicated the Ontario
Women’s Hockey Association
(OWHA)’s policy is quite similar.
The OWHA is the governing body
of women's hockey in Ontario.
A copy of the WOAA policy,
once it has been drafted, will be
sent to each town contact. He noted
it also be available on the WOAA's
website.
According to MacDonald, the
W'OAA shares information with its
associate members — the OMHA.
OWHA and the Ontario Amateur
Soltball Association - and each are
bound by each other's privacy
policies.
He indicated that members of the
WOAA will have an opt out option
so that their information will not be
provided to third party interests.
Women's hockey chairperson
Coreen Harding of Howick
explained that the Hometown
flockey magazine would be a
third- party interest.
MacDonald said the policy
describes the way in which the
WOAA collects, uses, retains,
safeguards, discloses and disposes
of the personal information of
prospective members, members
and others including players,
parents,
coaches,
volunteers and employees.
"We don't give out information
to third-party interests." said
MacDonald.

Harding said the 2004-05 season
has been completed and already
work on the 2005-06 campaign is
underway.
She congratulated the WOAA
champions and finalists in all the
year-end tournaments.
"This past year, the WOAA had
an increased number of teams

special congratulation goes to

for winning the gold medal in the B
division.’’
“I would also like to congratulate
Ripley Bantam girls for their gold
medal in the C divisions. They
played a long hard game that ended
in a tie after completing 10 periods
of overtime."
Harding said that both teams
decided on sharing the gold medal
rather than going to a shoot-out
format to determine the winner.
"The WOAA women's hockey
league is still growing in number
and in calibre of play,” she said.
"This season we welcomed Blyth
and Normanby as new centres to
our league and Brussels back into
the WOAA."
"As the number of teams climb,
we are better able to have more
competitive groupings at all
levels.”
Harding reported on the OWHA
annual meeting which was held in
May.
Although the majority of
amendments were of the
housekeeping variety, teams in the
WOAA will have to get their
paperwork done a month earlier
beginning with (he 2006-07
season.
Beginning with next season, the
paperwork for teams competing at
the OWHA level, the paperwork
will have to be into the OWHA by
mid-September instead of Oct. 15
which it is now.
“This will mean a lot more
paperwork for the town contact,
especially those in the smaller
centres." she said.
According to Harding, teams
competing at the house league
level will not be affected by this

A number of amendments were
approved by the annual meeting.
All were of the housekeeping
variety.
However, most did generate
some discussion.
The first one was that affiliate
players must be approved by the
innings allowing two runs on four
hits and an error.
He fanned nine Gators to post
the win.
Getting hits for the Tigers in this
low-scoring contest were Josh
Beuermann, Scott Cox, Jason
Kellington. Jeff Newell and
Shawn Thompson.

convener (ol ihc affiliated team)
prior to the start ol the playoffs.
rhe rationale behind the
amendment was the prior appioval
of affiliated players would allow
conveners to better monitor which
players are being used and are
eligible as affiliates for the year-
end tournaments.
A player's first commitment will
still be with the team the} are
registered with.
A second amendment stated a
player shall be eligible to try-out
for and. if qualified by ability, may
sign and play tor a team in the next
higher division in her home centre.
The rationale was that it clarified
the fact that players can move up to
the next higher division in their
home centre, if qualified by ability.
There was some discussion on if
a centre had two teams in the same
division, would the player be
eligible to play for the second team
if the player failed to make the first
team.
Harding indicated it should be up
to the home centre.
A representative from Saugeen
Shores indicated they have a policy
where a player may try-out for a
higher division team, but if they
don't make it. then they return to
the team in their own division.
/Another amendment stressed the
importance of playing all league
games. Team not playing all their
games will be liable to a $100 bond
forfeiture and will not be eligible to
participate in playoffs or year-end
tournaments.

The women’s hockey scheduling
meeting will take place on Oct. 4 at

beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Season ends for Midget girls
at Holmesville tournament
The Brussels Midget girls
participated in their final year-end
tournament held in Holmesville on
Saturday, Aug. 20.
The first game was against
Hibbert. Catrina Josling doubled to
score Coral Nicholson for the only
Brussels run. Julie Brown pitched
with four strikeouts and six walks.
Hibbert scored 14 runs.
The high point in the game was
when Mary Aitchison snagged two
fly balls in one inning.
The girls then played back-to-
back games against Goderich.
Brussels needed a win to con
tinue.
Brown pitched a great game with
11 strikeouts. However, errors in
fielding would see nine Goderich
runners cross home. Brussels
would score only five hits on by
Brown, Josling, Jenna Fischer and
Nicholson.
The Midget girls finished the
season in sixth place.
